I agree. There are plenty of other forums that focus on politics if that is your thing. I can't stand it when people interject hot topic issues on forums completely unrelated.
It's the same reason why I hate what FB has become. I have too many imbeciles that friend me and then want to post their political crap daily.

Interesting to see the responses to this thread. There have been a number of threads about politics in the UK (Margaret Thatcher), Brazil and Pakistan on DAC with no objections to the political discussion. But bring Barry into a discussion and everyone goes ape s**t.

Maybe it's because of that that I'm tired of political BS on this forum. There's an unlimited number of ways to say "I hate Obama" or to show how bad he is, and it doesn't change a damn thing or make it even interesting anymore. I stopped listening to Walton and Johnson on the morning radio for that reason...it's just the same sh1t over and over again.

You make a good point. And we are moving into an era where our government is quickly becoming the new Soviet Union. The NSA is monitoring for citizens who say negative things about our President and will target the IRS to harass them. I've already been targeted by the IRS, so I don't give a crap if they are monitoring me anymore.

AIDS wasn't understood by the CDC or any medical organization for several years after patient zero. It took a number of years just to find the vectors for the disease, realizing that it was a sexually transmitted disease (not just a gay disease...jeez, why do people still think that?), so it wasn't like Reagan was sitting on the information and then releasing it when he felt like it. AFA as the gun bill, all that did was tighten (for a while) restrictions on automatic weapons...it actually fixed a lot of bad loopholes in the sale and registration of weapons, and defined the ATFs legal abilities in gun control, ending years of loose regulations and unlawful gun seizures and arrests. Something that was needed since the government was actually less tolerant of gun ownership then (until the last few years, anyway).

He also hated welfare bums, as he called them...wanted a jobs program to "get them back to work".

Are we on the same wave length on this or not?
Of course they did, the little sneaky demos sneaked the machine gun clause into the bill right at the last minute. At the end of the day Reag's still signed it and it will never be undone.

Bill, it's hard not to resort to the "I was there and you weren't" tactic because all that is still pretty fresh in my memory...the 80's were good to me. I think that one reason semi-autos are referred to as autos is that you can fire as rapidly as you can pull the trigger (nowhere near as fast as a full auto, though). AFA the "for awhile", a lot of that gun law signed into being in 1986 has been riddled with loopholes and sub-clauses, which weakened the bill quite a bit over the years. Most laws are eventually eroded by lawyers looking to get their clients a break, and the NRA is always on the lookout for weaknesses to exploit. BTW, I am a member and support a lot of the work that the NRA is active in, but there are always a radical few in any organization who think that all laws are a restriction of their freedoms.

My comment was not about Reagan nor Obama but those generations who blow off warnings from past generations because they think they can do better and then end up with a woe is me situation when those warnings come true and there are those of us who are frustrated as hell with this type of mentality.

He sold arms for hostages, Iran/Contra.
He funded terrorists, the same group that attacked us on 9/11 was funded by Reagan in the 1980s.
Unemployment was 7.5 % when he came into office in 1981, by 1982 it was 11%.
AIDS was sweeping the country and he ignored it.
He gave amnesty to 3 million undocumented immigrants allowing corporations to hire them in place of American workers and all the laws clamping down on corporations who hire illegal immigrants were removed from the bill.
He attacked unions and the middle class. PATCO.
His simplification of the IRS tax laws started the decline of manufactoring as we knew it in this country and we are paying the price today.
And lets not forget about all the bank failures and hostile corporate take-overs that ran rampant under his watch damn near destroying the entire country.

To make up for the lost revenue from the upper class, Reagan raised taxes eleven times during his term in office. he raised taxes seven of the eight years he was in office that mostly affected the middle and lower class.
