Apple is getting on my NERVES
Boy am I really happy that I am not an Apple fan, I would be pretty pissed right now if I had been an Ipad 3 owner, like REALLY pissed, what does Apple see us as? Cash cows?
Sorry just needed to vent this out.

So you're not a fan, which probably means you dont own an ipad, but you would be pissed if you WERE a fan and owned one?
You make absolutely no sense.

Re: Apple is getting on my NERVES
I don't understand...why are you mad? You haven't told us what they did.
EDIT: WAIT, must be because of the iPad mini.
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/apple-...-23400698.html
I knew it was coming out, I just didn't know it would be this soon. I'm assuming that he would be mad if he bought an iPad 3 and then this just came out....but many people don't want a small tablet, they buy tablets for the larger size, so probably not many people mad.

I'm a fan of new technology in general so I closely watch companies like Facebook, Apple, Samsung, Google etc.
Not owning an Apple product still entitles me to voice my opinion. I'm a marketing major so the way companies market their products is very interesting to me.
Apple compared its new Ipad mini priced at $329 with a $249 Google tablet, I don't call that fair competition. Not only that but the Ipad mini has no retina display and a lower resolution than its competitors such as the Kindle fire. I will bet $1,000 that an Ipad mini with a retina display will be released less than 6 months from today.
The Ipad 4 to me is like showing the middle finger to Ipad 3 owners and this "push to consume" mentality is really upsetting. I am positive that if Steve Jobs was still alive, he would have not allowed 2 Ipad releases within 6 months.
Don't get me wrong here, I think most high tech companies are in bed together, but after watching Apple's narcissistic and arrogant keynote this afternoon, I just couldn't keep my potty mouth shut.

Re: Apple is getting on my NERVES
Now it makes sense. Yes, Apple's new tactics are really strange, I don't really see the iPad mini selling that well, to be completely honest, since there are better tablets out there that are cheaper. Don't get me wrong, I like Apple products, just not too big on the price, this is why I opted for a Samsung Laptop equally equipped to a Macbook Pro...but for around $300 less.

Well of course, for companies like Apple, we the consumers are suckers for any little gizmo that flies out of Foxconn.

Not only that but they are cannibalizing their own products:
Ipod: $299
Ipad mini: $329
Ipad 3: $399
Ipad 4: $499
Who in their right mind would buy an ipod when they could get the ipad mini for $30 more?
Samsung will be announcing new tablets on October 29th, it'll be very interesting to say the least. There are rumors that they plan on releasing a $99 7 inch tablet!

Blah Blah Blah. Dont say it's 'upsetting' because that is absolute BS. If the new ipad mini release truly upsets you then clearly you live a charmed life, so congratulations on that. And speaking for the deceased Mr. Jobs with regards to ipad releases is beyond absurd.

Wow Nick, really? OK let me use a word that won't cause such commotion then, it bothers me rather than upsets me. Why does it bother me? For the reasons mentioned above.
I'm not 100% certain of how Jobs would have done things, I just know how he did things in the past and it wasn't like this.

I couldn't agree more. But, what makes this whole electronic revolution even worse is our steady march toward social insensibilities. Bunch of "icrap" it is.

Re: Apple is getting on my NERVES
Well, here's how I see it, and how I sell MP3 players and iPods. Why carry around 20 different CDs of your favorite music when you can carry them in a small device? The days of CDs are getting close to being done. You can't even walk into a store anymore, Best Buy, Walmart, any of them and find a full selection of music CDs. Best Buy here only has one row of CDs, all of them mostly that Justin Beeber crap or music like it. With a device such as an iPod, you can carry all of your music with you, and say for a road trip, you have a HUGE selection of music rather than 6 or 8 CDs that you will get tired of. You can take it with you and listen to it at work, or while you are running, or whatever you do. Can't do that easily with CDs.
If there is anything that I like and is a really good step up for people just getting into new technology, it's an iPod or an MP3 player.

Different strokes for different folks - The music
It was around 1981 when I saw a few people using the walkman. Even back then, I thought, what the heck are they doing walking around like a zombie listening to music 24/7? With CDs, I download them into my car's hard drive and really like that. Even then, I can take a road trip without the desire for music. In Virginia Beach, the Best Buys, Barnes & Nobles and f.y.e's are stocked plenty with cds, dvds and Paddington Bears that gospodin so loves.

Re: Apple is getting on my NERVES
Well, in a way its good. By releasing iPad 4 eight months after iPad 3 the price would decrease slightly...maybe enough to justify upgrading to iPad 3. Same thing with the iPhones. When I went back to the US earlier this month, several colleagues/friends/relatives asked me to buy an iPhone 4S for them because they knew its $100 cheaper than before ever since the iPhone 5 was announced...and the tech is not outdated. Much cheaper than China's price, at least. 16GB I bought in the US cost around RMB3,650 with tax (about $600)...while the Apple store in Shanghai sells it for RMB4,440 (about $700).

But what you can do with 6 or 8 CDs is to put them all onto one disc in mp3 format. Then you get enough music for a long road trip.

Some antediluvian CD players won't play mp3 discs.
But speaking of discs, I still like to buy my music as CDs and transfer them to my iPod Touch. I download nothing.

Re: Apple is getting on my NERVES
The fact of the matter is, its all about the benjamins... They dont care about which or how many previous I-products you have purchased. They will keep churning them out because they know people will buy them..
Apple is not the only manufacturer that is guilty of this... They all are...

If you're a marketing major and you don't understand Apple's marketing philosophy you must have been asleep in your Marketing 101 class.
I find Apple's marketing absolutely brilliant. They have created a product people want and have created an update cycle that keeps consumers wanting more. If you knew anything about marketing, you would admire how well Apple does this.

I cannot understand how somebody can buy something only to be prepared to buy an updated version of it sometime later, and that too less than a year or even lesser than that.
And if you are not bright enough not to realise what you are doing (or for that matter what they are doing to you), then you can be sure they will continue to make absolute fools of people!! Well the same can be said with TV's LCD, LED, 720p, 1080p, 3D...blah,blah....and with cameras don't even go there!! But you don't see people leaving their TVs/cameras on the curb, the way people go buying these new Apple products everytime a new one comes out....!
I bet you those same people that line up one year are the same ones that line up when the new product launches, and throw their previous versions in the bin. Lining up and being the first to get it...what sort of a generation of people are these!! !!
I for one am happy I do not own an Apple product....oh wait I do!! It's a "tossed" Ipod the ones that were the size of a deck of cards, and yes something that was tossed in the bin by someone from the younger generation...would I upgrade.... I would not!!

A friend of mine called them Apple Zombies or Apple minions
These Zombies/Minions are faithful followers and will blindly accept whatever the marketing dept of Apple is advertising
IMHO:
I can say there Marketing dept is very good compare to their engineers, because they are able to fool a person to keep on upgrading to there new product.. making an old technology new again..

Exactly my point. If the person who wrote the OP was really a marketing major, he would understand that Apple is a case study in doing marketing the right way.

Re: Apple is getting on my NERVES
Though I hate using Apple products (in my university), I must say they know how to hustle the consumers like few others.
The beauty of capitalism is that I have the freedom, assuming I have the money, to buy as many ridiculous I-Gadgets as I want, or buy none of them.

Spoken like a true Apple sheep my man. It seems you associate Marketing with brainwashing, you say Apple keeps creating a product people want to buy? Okay so tell me, why would the owner of an Ipad 3 want to buy an Ipad 4? What does 2x faster than the already fastest tablet on the market bring to most users of the Ipad? Are you aware of the demographics of who uses an Ipad or are you too blind by your awe and brilliance of what you see Apple as?
Apple is a successful company, I won't deny you that. I do think none of their product updates have been innovativr whatsoever since the launch of their first version of everything but whatever. My gripe with Apple is that they KNOW they can release anything in any time frame and that people like you will buy it because it has their logo on the back. As I said above, that is not marketing. Marketing drives to sell a product based on its attributes, not rehashing every blasted keynote with the exact same narcissistic information. go to Youtube and educate yourself alittle on that company you so admire. Watch every keynote ever made. Each is a clone of the other. I'm just thankful I'm not in the bunch that stands in awe at every address they make to the public like a dog staring at a bone.
Make no mistake, I don't think the competition is much better. But the competition doesn't flaunt every new release of their shiny products like the holy grail of our time. It is especially Apple's arrogance that gets to me more than anything else, but if that's marketing to you, then we both live in 2 very different worlds, and that is quite alright :-)

Re: Apple is getting on my NERVES
Apple has done an outstanding job on its marketing, to convince the consumer to need the apple iphone 5, when their apple iphone 2, 3 or 4 still serves its purpose. Apple is cranking out their products like automobiles... They just need to call them the 2012 apple iphone, and the soon to come 2013 apple iphone. ...so long as the land of the conspicuous consumer feels the need to have the latest and greatest with every known app and feature, the possibilities are endless for apple!
C'mon down the 2012 iphones must go so we can make room for the 2013's! At an Apple store near you!

After reading this rant, I'm convinced you are not a marketing major, just someone who hates Apple. The essence of marketing is convincing a consumer they need something. If you like Apple products or not, as a marketing major, you should at least embrace their marketing.
Interesting, I looked up the definition of marketing, and Apple was used as an example of marketing.
Quote:
Marketing Definition:
The management process through which goods and services move from concept to the customer. It includes the coordination of four elements called the 4 P's of marketing:
(1) identification, selection and development of a product,
(2) determination of its price,
(3) selection of a distribution channel to reach the customer's place, and
(4) development and implementation of a promotional strategy.
For example, new Apple products are developed to include improved applications and systems, are set at different prices depending on how much capability the customer desires, and are sold in places where other Apple products are sold. In order to promote the device, the company featured its debut at tech events and is highly advertised on the web and on television.
Marketing is based on thinking about the business in terms of customer needs and their satisfaction. Marketing differs from selling because (in the words of Harvard Business School's retired professor of marketing Theodore C. Levitt) "Selling concerns itself with the tricks and techniques of getting people to exchange their cash for your product. It is not concerned with the values that the exchange is all about. And it does not, as marketing invariable does, view the entire business process as consisting of a tightly integrated effort to discover, create, arouse and satisfy customer needs." In other words, marketing has less to do with getting customers to pay for your product as it does developing a demand for that product and fulfilling the customer's needs.

Apple scraps Google Maps, puts its interests ahead of customers
By Henry Blodget
Fifteen years ago, Apple ( AAPL) was left for dead.
Vanquished by Microsoft ( MSFT) in the operating system wars, and badly mismanaged in the wake of the firing of founder Steve Jobs, the company was running on fumes.
Then Steve Jobs came back.
And, over the next decade, Jobs led what is probably the most remarkable turnaround in corporate history. Thanks to a host of amazing products that Jobs and his team invented, Apple has become the most valuable and profitable company in the world.
[Related: iPhone 5 Pre-Orders Blow The Doors Off—But Is Apple Losing Its Edge?]
Importantly, though, Apple's current wealth and power makes the company much less sympathetic than it was in the early years of its turnaround.
In those years, the only people who cared about Apple, were its devoted faithful--folks who believed in "Think Different," hated the Microsoft empire, and believed that, with Steve Jobs back at the helm, Apple could pull off a miracle. As Apple scratched and clawed its way back from the brink, they cheered its every move. And that support, combined with Apple's release of one beautifully designed product after another, gradually won over hundreds of millions of gadget consumers and helped destroy the Microsoft monopoly.
[Related: Apple's iPhone 5: Does It Live Up to the Hype?]
But now Apple is unfathomably rich and powerful. And the feisty competitiveness with which the company attacks critics and competitors is reminding people of Microsoft's tactics back in the Windows-monopoly days of the late 1990s.
In the latest release of its mobile operating system and the iPhone 5, for example, Apple has replaced Google Maps with its own mapping solution.
No one knows for certain why it did this, but the consensus is that the company wanted to control a potentially lucrative app. And reviewers have almost universally concluded that Apple's mapping solution is worse than Google's, and, therefore, that--at least for now-- Apple has used its tremendous power to put its own interests ahead of its customers'.
[Related: How to Get the Best Price for Your Old iPhone]
Apple needs to be aware of this dynamic--and careful of it. Because sentiment around the company could turn quickly. And if Apple loses the fanatical support of hundreds of millions of consumers worldwide, it will lose one of its most valuable assets.

Re: Apple is getting on my NERVES
I can't believe the amount of 'hate' for a company shown here. Let's remember that nobody is forcing anyone to buy or use anything. Apple puts it out there . . . you can accept or decline. Real easy. Only dopes get suckered in, and I suspect that is the original observation by AC881.
I like some of Apple's stuff. The Mac laptop I'm usually posting here with is near 8 years old, as was the one previous. Yes, I have an iPod Touch too. Love it. It ends there for me, though. I also have a lovely IBM T42 laptop and a slick folding Motorola Razor cell phone.

Re: Apple is getting on my NERVES
If you don't like them, don't buy and support there products.
Just compare Apple Products to a McDonald's Restaurant some health conscious people do not like there food, but our kids love it. (another genius marketing example)
Personally I do not own a Apple Product, except for my Wife's IPOD (she only uses it because of the Facetime App) because it is a rip-off having to spend an extra $100~200 to have a bigger capacity and received an extra feature.
That is why my gadgets are Android products (Tablet and Smart Phone) where I could just purchase a microsd card to expand it's capacity and provides me more flexibility where I am not tied to be always connected to Itunes.
Again.. This is just me..

Re: Apple is getting on my NERVES
The problem?
The world works on a want, want, want basis and not need, need, need.
If you have to queue up all night to get the latest "toy" then there is
something lacking in your life.
I don't own a cellphone,ipad ipod,ipid or iped, i have no need but then,i
was born in the 1950's and got by without all this rubbish.

You are almost correct. It's not just these two, it's ALL of the HM line I can do without. So I simply don't buy them. No raised blood pressure here.

Re: Apple is getting on my NERVES
. . . and just a query . . . is everyone here so young that they have not seen this 'new-model-on-the-heels-of-an-earlier model' syndrome before? It really is a very old story and has been going since the late 80's and is a well-known practice by all the digital hardware and software manufacturers.
