Allez Wiggo!
Having just seen Bradley Wiggins taking Gold in the Mens' time trial, I thought I'd show my support and post congratulations on his brilliant achievement.
Well done Wiggo, you made team GB, all its supporters and all your fans REALLY REALLY proud!

Re: Allez Wiggo!
Arise Sir Bradley......? I doubt you will get any decent odds on Sports Personality of the Year either.
Magnificent achievement, well done Wiggo, and bloody well done to all the other Team GB medal winners. Very proud to be British at the moment.

Re: Allez Wiggo!
And lets not forget Chris Froome who got bronze in the mens' TT- a well deserved medal for a very fine man.
I'm afraid to say my car now sports an RAF roundel bumper sticker in support of Wiggo!

Re: Allez Wiggo!
Although his comments on helmets afterwards went down like a bacon sandwich at a Bar Mitzva amongst many cycling enthusiasts.
Fortunately, I think he had just had one or two to drink and later explained. Unfortunately I imagine it'll get seized on by the safety nazis now.... so, err, yes, well done Wiggo

Re: Allez Wiggo!
Well I'm actually totally amazed helmets are not a legal requirement in the uk. With such a hyper-developed safety culture in britain it was a huge surprise to me, living in south africa to find that they aren't legally required in the uk.
Yes, i think Wiggo had just had a couple of pints and was speaking candidly, though he really stressed afterward he wasn't calling for laws to be changed.Oh well, i guess the media bend things to create a story sometimes...

Re: Allez Wiggo!
I could have a helmet debate with you, but I'll spare you that. Put quite bluntly, the subject is riddled with contradiction and irony, but a cycle helmet is only useful in CERTAIN circumstances, and in others, it can actually make things worse, such as when you get the straps caught in something and you end up with neck injuries as your head gets pulled...... Also, your head is physically bigger and as such is more likely to hit something in the first place.
Wearing a helmet should be a personal choice, like drinking or smoking and not a law. It is a well known fact (in the UK anyway) that drivers are more likely to give you more space if you are not wearing a helmet and also, patronising as it sounds, it is also well known that if you are wearing a helmet then you feel safer and therefore take more risks. Ironically, in countries where they have made helmets mandatory, the number of cyclists has actually dropped becuase people perceive it to be more dangerous than it very often is.
The solution isn't more helmets, it is better all round road safety training and a political will to take it all seriously. Just look at Denmark and the Netherlands for example. Hardly anyone there wears a helmet and yet, they have a much lower death rate than elsewhere. That isn't luck.
Prevention is always better than cure.
