Default Jetcars and Fazeman - 1991 - Youtube

Filmed by two old friends, Dodie and Bruce, the Dixie Drag Classic was the last big event at Suffolk Raceway, Suffolk, Va. before closing in 1991. They filmed much of the race and I converted the tape to dvd and cut this small jetcar segment for youtube. Suffolk Raceway - 1991 - YouTube. I'm introduced at the end.

The raceway was leased from 1961 to 1991 and turned back to the Suffolk Executive Airport. The picture below is the former drag strip turned airport runway.

Sad to see the old drag strip turned into an airstrip. Almost all the old raceways in Southern California are gone now (and all the old drive-ins, too *sigh*). Almost didn't recognize young Mr. Feser there, Steve!

If all else fails, wait til I turn sideways because the nose knows. Yeah, drag racing grew up and left the grandfather tracks behind. But, new state of the art 1/8 & 1/4 mile tracks have opened since the '90s and a couple of those places was where I enjoyed puttin' my pedal to the metal '70 Challenger style.

The '90s were fun years for me in motor sports and it was in '91 that my interest in the sport was ignited. My brother Paul took this pic of me in front of Eddie and Ercie Hill's Pennzoil dragster at Englishtown, NJ (1991).
