Default SQ 777 off the runway in Munich

Just heard a Singapore 777-300ER went off the runway and onto the grass in Munich about an hour ago. Doesn't look serious, though I'd love to know what happened?

PS: the link's in German, so Entschuldigung, bitte, I couldn't find an English link!

Not an hour, but almost three months ago.

Didn't see the official report yet, so I don't know what happened.
Might have been an autoland gone wrong for some reason - but I'm no expert. As far as I remember seeing the video of the incident, the aircraft curved to the left of the runway after touchdown (with a slight left bank angle) and then went through the grass, had a good drift with the main gears there before crossing the runway and coming to a halt on the other side. Luckily the gears didn't collapse I'd say.

Hahahaha! Oh dear (says Thamesradar, his face turning bright red!)

A friend just sent me the link, and said I must check it out...I didn't see the date!

I do apologise!

( This just confirms my suspicions that I'm really, really far out of the loop!)

Sorry again guys!

So I tried to run it through google translate, which ended up failing miserably. Check it out:

It was 12.14 clock, when the Boeing 777 landed at Singapore Airlines coming from Manchester (flight number SQ 327) in Erdinger Moos. The giant bird floated in from the west on one of the southern runway. At the height of the cargo terminal, the machine came after touchdown and braking is still not clarified the out of control.

According to our information the newspaper flier was left off the track, drifting over its entire width, and then come to the right ten yards into the meadow to a halt. Only one wing tip protruded into the runway. The suspensions were the lumber price was above the meadow, the machine is not even a slumped. With what speed the plane was skidding, airport spokesman could not say Robert William.

The airport fire department was just a few seconds after the accident site - the Südwache is located directly opposite the crash site. Boeing immediately was surrounded by fire engines to ensure fire safety. Immediately began the liberation of the 143 passengers and 13 crew members. This includes the emergency stairs of the fire was set. Buses brought the passengers to the terminal that had remained unscathed.

Immediately took to the airport police investigations. Their spokesman Josef Bichl Meier confirmed that there had been no injuries, the accident was so got off lightly. About two dozen officers heard the crew. Of all the persons other passengers were taken. Even on Thursday met the experts of the Federal Aviation Agency.

By the same evening, the experts of the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation with the causes were employed, so that the recovery of Boeing, which was still capable of rolling had to be maintained. The forces laid a mat reinforced with steel mesh from the wheel to the runway. With the help of powerful tractors and fire engines should be exempt from the plane of his predicament. Before that, the tank pumped out and the luggage was unloaded.

For the traffic management and the German air traffic control, the job went to the botched landing just the beginning: The planes that rolled on the taxiway already in direction south runway will be redirected needed, because the track was completely blocked and cleared of all air traffic on the northern runway. Be deleted to 16 clock already had 30 flights, all other machines went out with at least half an hour late.

That article reads like Korean-translated TV instructions. Funny stuff (especially since no one was injured, only "liberated").

"So I tried to run it through google translate, which ended up failing miserably"... Some of my best friends are German, but gee whiz, their sentence structure seems strange, and doesn't lend itself to literal translation to the King's English or even good ole American, but we get the drift. Funny, right funny. Thanks heaps, Doug
