You Might Wanna Try Joining A Camera Club. You'll Learn A Few Things.
If You Think The Editors ADN Are Anal, Wait 'Til You're Photos Are Critiqued By A Panel Of Judges. I've Seen Work Deemed "Not Competition Material." Trouble Is EVERYONE Thinks Their Photos Are Great...To Themselves, And to Be Nice Others Will Rub Your Ego A Bit, But The Point Of A Club Is To Learn Improve Your Photos So They Stand Out Above What's Is So Unbeleivably Common. |

Mark ... I agree 100%! Yes, I was a teenager in the early 80's - that whole decade was awesome, still miss it!

The late 60's and 70's were great too but the 80's were the BEST!btw - did you manage to get any tickets for tomorrow? What do you think of today's 42c/108f temperature with high humidity? I was bitching and complaining all Winter - couldn't wait for Summer to get here. Blah! Guess I should have been careful what I wished for, eh? as now it's the complete opposite extreme. 2 great thunderstorms last night though! Love watching them, not fun getting caught outdoors during one and almost getting zapped by lightning!

You have no idea the amount of crap photos I saw being put up for competions. The worst thing of all was that, there as a woman who went along and, to her, everything was 'beautiful'. You would be shown some bloody awful or banal picture of a sunset or something, and 9 times out of ten, you would be certain of hearing the words from the crowd 'Aww that's beautiful' uttered at least once. Are you quite possibly BLIND??!! Did me head in that woman did!! ![]() ![]() Most people just did it as a bit of fun though, or simply to see how good (or bad) their pictures were. I learned a lot, but on the other hand, yes, the judges could be total twits themselves, we all saw it from time to time. Glad I'm getting out of the photographie lark. I say Photographie as there was a French student at College, and from being around him so much, I ended up saying Photographie myself. Always liked it, it sounds good.

I know what you mean, they are so very cliched.
I like skyscapes and have done many myself purely for the colours as they still are nice. I prefer interesting cloud formations, and on that note, there was a guy who always won competitions. What did he always take pictures of?? Landscapes where the sun was out and there were a few boring fluffy little white clouds, and that was it. Lovely pictures, but he might as well have entered the same picture every time, they ALWAYS looked the same!! Maybe he did enter the same ones again, I just stopped looking at them properly after about the 53rd picture of Rannoch Moor in brilliant sunny weather, even the ones with snow. I prefer more interesting weather conditions - it's more of a challenge and I always wanted to see one he'd done when the weather was rubbish, see how good he REALLY was. Between him and 'beautiful' woman, that feckin' club it just about drove me insane! Anyway, enjoy it. I don't really care much about it anymore, it's just too much hastle. I'll take pictures that I like, not what others like, full stop. With my training, they will still be good pictures anyway.

Other than generally softer light, I don't quite know how you could prove it was one or the other unless it was at some really well known landmark.
