Hi Everyone,
I hope this is the right place for this post. A couple of years ago I was given a fantastic collection of Photographs showing mostly Navy Golden Era aircraft. This collection belonged to a Mr. Doughty who was a Naval Aerial Photographer in the 1930's. After Mr. Doughty died, the collection was given to his grandson, who has had the collection stored in his garage for many years, in Southern California. While my family was on vacation to Southern California, about 3 years ago, we visited my friend and at that time he asked me if I wanted some airplane pictures to sell on ebay. I said sure, and he gave me two old black photo albums and a box of loose photographs. After the vacation, I took out the photographs to see what was there, and discovered this great collection of aviation history, among other things. I decided it had too much historical value to break up and sell, so I put the collection on the internet to share with everyone. Here is a picture of Mr. Doughty with his camers. ![]() The camera is almost half as large as he is. Imagine leaning out over the side of a biplane with the wind rushing past and trying to take a good picture with that camera. What would happen if they hit an air pocket? ![]() I have been contacted by a couple of renound aviation historians that told me the collection is one of the major collections, of that era, on the internet. Another historian sent me the Histoy Cards and Maintenance cards for the aircraft that I could identify with the BuNo. These cards tell where the aircraft was assigned on a certain date. The maintenance cards tell what has to be repaired after a crash. This is great historical information. Here is a photograph of a Grumman F3F-1 Fighter. ![]() This aircraft crashed while doing dive bombing exercises and the Pilot was killed. Pictures of the crash scene are included in the collection. I do not have a lot of money to promote my website www.oldairplanepictures.com, so I am visiting the different aviation forums trying to get the word out. If anyone would like to help me promote my website by telling their friends, that would be appreciated. I have made the photographs large to show detail for reference. My visitors can right click and copy the photographs to their hard drives, for their personal enjoyment. All I ask is that they not be used for any commercial purpose without my permission. Lee |
