I thought it would be interesting if everybody listed the first plane they ever bought and in what year and month. And let us know if you still have it. And please add a picture of either the model or the real thing if you don't have a picture, it makes the thread more interesting
I'm fairly new at the hobby so here is my first model November 2007 DW Emirates B777-300 |

Herpa 560337 Singapore Airlines B747-412 "Megatop", 9V-SPG.
I'm also new at this. Bought this model while in-flight on Singapore Airlines to Singapore on Sept 30, 2007. Also picked up a 1/500 B777-200ER and a Lupa 1/200 A380. After comparing the 400 and 500, decided to go with the 400. To date, 151 1/400 models with 8 more coming in and a visit to Hong Kong real soon! ![]() |

I had a DW 1:500 Malaysian B772ER Inflight sales item in 2004, and then a few Emirates planes a total of 5 I guess...Then I started buying locally from middle 2006 but that was close to another maybe 10-12
And then once I joined DAC from October (I think) last year, the bug bit my rear so bad, it sky rocketed to around 90! It was also around the time I started buying on ebay! The forum has been a tremendous help to me....the only thing scaring me big time now is the yellowing of these models. |

My first was the Corgi Classics model of Concorde in the slit BA/SIA livery in :400.
If you mean my FIRST FIRST, then: a Matchbox Aer Lingus 747-100 with HUMUNGOUS wheels from Woolworths, aged about 8, circa 300 years ago. It very nearly was a Virgin one, but I couldn't read fancy or joined up writing very well, so, not knowing what it said on it, I bought a plane that I could read instead, even though I had no idea what Aer Lingus meant either. Also, I think it being all pretty and green helped! Behold! 8 year old logic, eh? I eventually gave it to the kids of some friends. I regretted it, so when I found another one, I promptly bought it for the grand total of 50p! Got it, sitting at the back with the other 'proper' models. Wonder if it's too late to ask if I can get the 'original' back?? ![]() ![]() Last edited by Roarer; 05-22-2008 at 01:02 PM. |

I was hooked when I had my first model at my local model shop back in 2002.
The first one was this Premiar A330-300 with CFM (A340-300) engines. Regardless of the quality, that was the beginning of the addiction of small metal models. Real: Model: ![]() |

Hi.
My first model I bought was the DW Lufthansa 747-400 D-ABVF in very early 2000 (maybe 2001). I had no idea about 1:400 models and had never seen one either. I bought it in Hong Kong airport as a present for my son. After unpacking back home in Sweden I realized this was something incredible. After I found some forums on the Internet I got started to collect these birds. Today my collection has reached +200 1:400. |

That's a very difficult question as it depends what you call a 'model'. If we are defining this as diecast scale models, then I would guess it was a Lone Star Vickers Viscount that my father bought for me as a kid. It was in Aer Lingus markings and I also had a Britannia in British & Commonwealth livery. There was a company that made some lovely Douglas DC-7s in SAS and Swissair colours, with one engine that could be changed and with folding undercarriage. Was about 1/200th scale and quite expensive, but my father treated me to one of these that we purchased on the Roof Gardens shop at London Heathrow in the early '60s. Alas I have none of these now...as they got played with to death!!

First was a Wooster A330-200, Emirates. Was a total noob back then and had no inkling about quality. I bought that one back in 2004

Actually, I bought two first 1/400 models from Airline Museum in February '06: a Herpa Delta L-1011 and a GJ Braniff 747 in orange. The Delta because that was the first airliner I ever rode in, and the Braniff because that was the last model airplane I built before entering the military. Since that start, I've bought and traded over 700 models, but I'm down to 635 now. Not bad for only having been doing this for 27 months! :O

The plane I've had the longest, and the one I remember having first, although it probably wasn't, is a diecast Air France Concorde in old colours.
It has no markings on it except for the AF Chevrons on the tail in black, unless you count where the white paint has come off through play, particularly round about the nose. With silver wheels, it is 1:500ish, and has no maker's mark on it, other than 'Made in Hong Kong, Concorde 304'. The reason why I remember it so much was because, my Dad had a work conference in London, and we went with him. So, off we all toddled down and stayed at a posh hotel in Kensington somewhere. Anyway, one night after arriving back, we were walking through the car park, and, there it was, lying on the ground in an empty space beside a car. Being 5, I was very grateful for it! I always wondered who had had it before me, as it was quite playworn as it was at the time. I was not responsible for most of the paint loss I don't think. As a kid I liked it because all the other Concordes I had were the Corgi ones with those pathetic plastic noses, and I kept on breaking them , but this one, was solid metal, so It lasted. It was special to me as it was the only Roarerproof Concorde I had! lol.Today, many many MANY moons later, it resides beside the Hogan Concordes, along with the rest. ************************************************** ***** Actually, regarding that trip to London, I have a terrible confession to make: We went to Hamleys, and I got a matchbox plane in Fedex livery. It may have been before I found the Concorde, I cannot remember exactly. Anyway, this was all very well, but the next day, we went on a Routemaster to Hyde Park, and I wanted to 'see it fly', so I ..... err, threw it in the pond. If anyone finds a VERY rusty plane in there, it's MINE!! ![]() ![]() Actually, I did it twice, you see, the first time, it was fished out for me, so I thought that it was ok to do it again ![]() Thing is, once it had been fished out again, I seem to remember I wasn't going to throw it in again, I would keep it. Never quite forgave myself for such a senseless act of Aerocide ![]() My parents weren't too pleased either, but I seem to remember they were more just bemused at my actions more than anything. Oh well. Luckily, the Concorde is still here xx years later, and I have it in my hand as I type this!! Last edited by Roarer; 05-23-2008 at 10:19 PM. |

Yeah, I always just wanted to know where it had come from and how old it was when I found it in 19 ... cough cough cough, oh sorry.
Actually, I could imagine a kid somewhere getting all upset because they had just lost their plane. Anyway. So my firsts were my little 'Roarerproof' Concorde, first bought: the Aer Lingus 747, and the Corgi Concorde in split BA/SIA livery (See post 5). If it wasn't for that darn '747 getting in the way, I can see a Concorde theme coming on here ..... ![]() Last edited by Roarer; 05-24-2008 at 02:21 AM. |
