Default Princess Juliana Airport-St. Maarten

I read in airliners.net that this airport will put displaced threshold instead of the fence. What does this mean. Does this mean that we can not see the planes take off?

Relax...they are moving the threshold (spot the aircraft must land beyond) back by 500 feet I think last time I heard. I believe this had something to do with the airport meeting ICAO standards. The only thing that is going to happen is that the approaches won't be as low as they used to be. More than likely the takeoffs will remain the same. Glad I made it down there a few years ago!

Displacing the threshold even more? That stinks! Well it wouldn't make much sense for them to unreinforce the current threshold, so maybe KLM will land on the new displaced threshold, around where the current threshold is, from time to time. Hey, they're already doin it.
