Apparently, collecting model airplanes hasn't caught on here in Shanghai. Lots of stores selling diecast model cars and RC's...but its hard to find diecast airplanes. At any rate, thought I'd list the stores where I found and bought some model airplanes recently:
Shanke 182 Jin Ling East Rd Shanghai, China 200002 Very limited selection overall. They only had 2-3 1:400 scales, a few more 1:500 scales, and a handful of 1:200 scales. Bought 2 of the 3 1:400 scales...one made by Tucano and the other Dragon Wings. Rest of the store was dedicated to cars. Model Universe 376-378 Jin Ling East Rd Shanghai, China 200001 A larger store than Shanke, mostly dedicated to cars again. But they do have a slightly larger selection of diecast airplane models. Approx 8-10 1:400 scales, 20-25 1:500 scales, and probably around 10 1:200 scales. Just about every model is DW (picked up a nice Air Canada 747-200 twin pack made exclusively for Mikerian Mercantile Ltd.), but this is also where I picked up a Blue Box Gulf Air. Yifeng Model Co 457-459 Nanjing West Rd (2 blocks West of People's Square Park) Shanghai, China 200003 Only stock 1:400 and 1:200. Largest selection in Shanghai that I found so far. They had over 30+ different models at the 1:400 scale, and over 15 different 1:200 scales. 1:400s are all DWs and found some models what I think are oldies. PeopleExpress 747-200, Northwest Orient 720 in a tin box, AA 707 in a tin box. Even a B-29 dubbed "Wichita Witch" in a tin box. Going to look around for more stores along Nanjing West Rd. Other expats have mentioned they've seen some model shops along this road, so I'll check them out and see if they carry planes. |
