Default Server Upgrade Thread - Please read for updates or post questions.

All,
The entire Wings900 family of websites is moving to a new home! As of today we have started the transfer of the websites listed below to a new faster server. For those tech geeks out there here is a comparison

Old:
Intel Celeron 2.4ghz, 2gb of ram, 2x 40gb IDE hard drive

New:
Intel Dual Xenon 3.0ghz w/Hyper Threading, 2gb of ram, 250gb SATA hard drive

There WILL be a period of time where the following websites will not be available:
Wings900.com
diecastaircraftforum.com
diecastwings.net
airlinelogos.net
scale600.com
modelairports.net

As we know more we will try to pin down the date and time when the server migration will occur. We estimate that this process will take about 1-2 hours per site.

Thanks!
The DAC Team

Would you have known if i told you? We have 175mb of memory cached and pre-compiled PHP scripts that speed up the site. In addition, we compile all of our systems to the specific CPU installed which gets about another 10% performance boost..

Since when did W900 family started using the "old" server.. ???

I'm hoping for a smooth transition to the new server.
Good luck to our admins.

W900 and DAC have been on this server since January, 2005.

Well actually the sites only take about 3-4gb, the rest is the supporting stuff; backups, etc.. the second 40gb drive is mounted as a backup drive and contains weekly and daily backups of the site (we also backup our sites on a daily basis to another server).

dual xenons rule.

When I recently switched to AMD 5K+ 64 x2 dual core I could not believe how fast it was, so I am all for computer upgrades!

Agreed, i have an Intel 6500 Dual Core here, very fast. Remember Dual Xenons are just that, TWO processors. That is two chips & two fans on the mother board. Dual Core are 1 processor with two cores. The Dual chips gives you less congestion on the bus as the data can be split before it goes to the CPUS, where as on dual core there is only one bus for both cores.
