Post Spotting Forums under "Miscellaneous" section

It seems that the word "Spotting" is pretty alive on DAC. I see alot of photos being uploaded and shared at DAC.

I know that this is not an aircraft photos forum, but since it is "well" related and the guys at W900 have one, I think we should have one too.

May I suggest that DAC will set up a Spotting forum under section Miscellaneous?

Perhaps modeled after Wings900 forums.

Quicker the better, I say. I will be a regular contributor and as a airside caterer, I often get news of irregular visitors and freely pass this on to other interested persons, so all can enjoy. Let us amateurs post our good/not so good photos cos all have relevance in our hobby. BRING IT ON, and anyone who votes against this great idea is a .........idiot, selfish and not in the true spirit of our hobby.

Calm down. No need for the name calling. Let's not spark anything negative to this poll-suggestion.
Whoever voted against this suggestion is entitled to it.

Remember free speech, free voting.

Thanks to the majority who voted yes and also to the members who've voted NO.
I probably know who those may be.. But I'll let it rest...

Sure! A spotting forum sounds good! It allows our fellow members to enjoy each other's spotting pics - which may or may not be accepted by a.net or JP. Furthermore, some of us do travel around the globe for work and do some spotting on the side. Would be great to be able to share information like great spots for certain airports and which might be a good hotel with a great location for spotting too.

Guys:

Being an aviation fan and a spotter myself (I live less than a mile from CDGs northern most runway) I can truly relate to your wanting a spotter forum to post your pictures and spotting stories.

However:

You have to realize there are several sites already out there (a.net, jetphotos, etc) that exist just for that. So the Wings900 family really can't compete with these guys. Bandwidth and storage space are not free and the demands on our web site to host megabytes of your pictures is not negligent. All of that for free is certainly a great idea, but we have to think about the economics here - we are here for model collectors and that already takes up most of our time. If we had to spend time dealing with spotter pictures and dealing with bandwidth issues AND deal with the latest releases from X, Y, or Z I'm not too sure if we could do it.

We already have a picture gallery available on Wings900 for a small fee that allows you to post your pictures. You have to admit, as a site financed by advertising, we really don't cram it down your throat. The web sites are non-profit and I can assure you they are at a break-even point. If we have to invest in more storage space and bandwidth charges, I'm sure you can understand if we decide to focus on models and not places to post your pictures.

I don't want to be a party-pooper. I'd like to encourage you all to sign up for wings900 galleries at a minimum cost - we don't profit from it - your fees go to pay for the service.

No problem Sir.

I just thought that since the guys over there at W900 have their Spotting section, why can’t we have one here at DAC? All it takes is to create the spotting section just like the W900 model. I am familiar about running a forum, I don’t recall such kind of creating an extra forum made a major hiccup on bandwidth.

It’s not like it’s gonna make any “major differences” since the spotting pictures will still be posted in the forums anyway. I think the bandwidth or "storage space" will be the same whether DAC is with or without the spotting forum section,Unless DAC will ban members from uploading aviation spotting pictures in the forums. ?

My point was to separate the spotting threads from the 1:1 scale Commercial Aviation section which contain the CX Chief pilot fired –flyby thread or the Greenpeace at Heathrow just to name an example.

***************
Commercial Aviation:
-Cathay orders new Boeing 777's
-Philippine ATO gets downgraded to Cat2 by FAA
-Delta and Northwest merges ?

Spotting:
-Pictures from XXX
-KDAL spotting pictures 24/4/2007
-Close up Aircraft shots.

***************

However we do understand that the websites are non-profit and they are supported by adverts.

But again this was only a suggestion, nothing else. Thanks for your responses.

/John
