Does anyone here collect to a theme, or do you just buy whatever takes your fancy?
I collect in the scale of 1/400, and only the airlines and their aircraft that use Sydney airport. Would like to hear your thoughts! |

Hi, I mostly collect 1/500, but I have all Delta 1/400. For 1/500, I like AA and Swissair.

I tried to stick my original theme of special livery models but I have already wandered "off course".
Now, I collect 1:400 & 1:200 in any liveries that I desire but I try to stick with wide-bodies only. Although not many people like the Euro-white livery, I do have a majority of LH models.

I started collecting any airliner in 1:400 scale initially, but I have started to gear my purchases only to the specific type/airline and livery I've flown on.

One theme I'm going with is to have at least one example of every type of aircraft made, in 1/400 scale. Other than that, I have many favorites, but my United, American and Delta are the largest fleets in my collection. I've noticed my interests seem to stay within the '70s and '80s, and of course I try to find as many California fliers as I can, since I'm originally from San Diego...I used to sit in Balboa Park when I was a teen and watch the planes going into Lindburgh Field...what a trip! Worst approach outside of Kai Tek, from what I've heard.

1:200 scale mostly, although I have one 1:250 model. I am trying to keep it to types/colour schemes I have personally flown on, although I bought the In Flight 200 South African Airways Boeing 737-200 because I liked it.

Easy for me - 737s.... any make, any airline, and any scale!
However, my wallet reduces the scope down to 1:500 scale and the 1:200 Herpas (Premium and NP) They don't call me N1786B for nothing :-) |

![]() Aviation Photos: N1786B Myself, I do collect to a theme. I have a model airport located on a fictional island not far from Bermuda (website accessible here), and I try to collect only aircraft and airlines that would most likely fly there in real life. Of course, I'm starting out with smaller aircraft like 737s and A320s from the United States until the city develops a bit more and we can get trans-Atlantic flights and larger aircraft. |

I have many themes. I first started collecting large scale wooden and plastic airliner models of aircraft from the early generation regional airlines. As I acquired more models, I grouped them first by airline, and in some cases by the airline and the successor airlines (there are more, "Begats" in the airline industry than in the Book of Genisis in the Old Testament bible).
A couple examples are visible in this photo. Capital Airlines was purchased by United Airlines; Trans Texas became Texas International, are just two examples. Last edited by Planecrazy; 09-16-2007 at 10:34 PM. |

I'm into 1:72 fighters old and new. Had a few smaller ones until I discovered the true beauty of 1:72s.
Can anyone help direct me to the ultimate makers of these beauties? So far Witty Wings takes the cake but then again I am pretty new so anyone with great wisdom, do share. |

I only collect jet airliner models of types that were manufactured between the 1950s and 1960s. Most are in the scale of 1:400, however, I have just recently purchased a VFW Fokker 614 from Germany in the scale 1:100 since this type is simply not available in any other smaller scale. I'm still waiting for the day when Gemini Jets decides to make a 1:400 Tupolev TU-134, Fokker F-28.

Greetings to you from a former resident of Essen. I just made a visit there to my relatives who are still living in Borbeck. I love Lufthansa 1:400 types representative of the 60s and 70s, i.e. 707s, 727s, 737s although I do collect other European and American liveries. Not at all interested in Asian carriers for some reason. I believe there is an A-340 named for Essen as well?

So I mostly concentrate on Sydney stuff, but throw in anything else I like as well, which includes building up fleets for Qantas, Cathay Pacific, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Dan

I have finally reached the cross-roads where my collection is exactly where I want it to be. Only 1/400th scale models in this order;
Anything Pan American/Pan Am PSA PIEDMONT US AIR/US AIRWAYS (prior to America West merger) 747's with very colorful themes (ie Disney, Pokemon, etc.) In 1/200th scale PAN AMERICAN from WESTERN MODELS, CUSTOM MADE WESTERNS, INFLIGHT. Also WESTERN MODELS MILITARY. I only need one more WESTERN MILITARY MODEL in 1/200th scale which is the DOUGLAS C-124 GLOBEMASTER. Almost forgot. In 1/200th scale I used as a kid buy the monogram and revell glue together models of TWA. So I also have a Western Models L-1049 Super G Constellation and a L-1649 Constellation. In about a week I hope to complete a trade for the final TWA which is a TWA 747 solid titles from Inflight Models. Its been fun. Lost a lot of sleep. Countless hours spent on ebay bidding, losing, bidding and winning and now I'am close to the end. The only thing now is to focus on displays, airports etc for these models. Have a pleasant evening everyone. Its been fun. |

Air France, of course !
I also try to have at least one model of each aircraft in 1/400, and one of each major airline. I also like South American and Arab airlines. And anything russian too ! We cannot have too much of them !... ![]() |
