Default Protecting The Collection

As aviation enthusiasts and collectors we probably spend (or have spent) a large amount of time and financial capital on our collections and hobby. But how often do we ever think about replacing it should the unthinkable ever happen? Most homeowners policies do not protect against things like collectibles...as such things require additional coverage. Often, firms which specialize in this type of coverage are better than conventional insurance companies. They may even offer against more common losses like breakage.

Two are offered for consideration as a starting point...but you may want to shop around for coverage that meet your situation.

State Farm wrote me a $10,000 rider for $100/year for my collection. All I had to do was provide a list.

That´s robbery. My insurance company bills me around 70 EUR a year for everything in my apartment (incl. collectibles). Only if I had artwork or jewels I would have to extra insure it...

$100 Sounds about right give or take...but the most important thing is the coverage. Some riders only cover losses due to things like fire, theft, etc. I have a complete policy that includes everything including breakage.

This is a very good subject to bring up not all of us think of these things until it is too late, so thanks for reminding us of the fact that if we have over $10,000.00 worth of models it is a GOOD idea to protect them and yourself incase the unthinkable happens. The insurance will only cover the model but won't cover your time and effort of collecting and/or repair/refinishing but it's better the nothing at all.
