Default Need help

Hey Guys,

I was just starting to apply Hawaiian decals to my 1/200 DC-10 and when I soaked the cheatline in hot water for a few seconds, the decal deteriorated and broke up into many pieces. I believe the decals were made by Flightpath.
Could the decals be bad? Am I doing something wrong?
Feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

The problem with them is most likely age. I believe that sheet came out around the turn of the century

Best thing is to try and get ahold of another sheet. Any parts you haven't yet used are also still perfectly useable.
I always coat my old decals with Microscale Liquid Decal Film. Simply brush onto the decal and let dry. The film is self levelling so you won't have to worry about brush marks.
You can then apply the decal normally without it breaking into pieces. Just remember if you brush the entire decal sheet you'll have to trim around each piece since you will now have the equivalent of a solid piece of decal film.

You can even use decal setting solutions like Micro Sol as normal.

Or if you have a laser printer, you could buy sheets of decal film and copy the decals.

yup...age got to those decals. Get yourself a new sheet if possible (or see if there is a newer set by another decal maker). The microscale stuff is great.
