this one is going to be one fun project! maybe be a long project too. i got the design and engineering all down in my head so hopefully it wont take that long to crank it out.
i really love winglets on the original LCF design, i may just leave them in on my model. still trying to decide just finished studying some photos and drew the cut lines on the model already. this weekend i go to my local hardware shop and hunt down a tube i can use as the underlying shape and support. i think i need a 1.25in diameter tube, if i can find one. glue is drying as we speak so i cant make the cut tonight....even though im dying to make the cut! ![]() Last edited by B-16707; 04-11-2008 at 12:36 AM. |

My best wishes for you, the donor 747, and the final product. It's going to be awesome. That LCF is an awesome plane. I remember watching it take off from KBFI at about midnight, in the snow, with winglets. I'd vote for the winglets to stay on.

Can't wait your LCF to be finished! I know Risesoon produced LCF model for the ceremony hold for 1st LCF rolled out, but they used CNC method so very limited quantity is produced and hard to get.
Here are some pics I took and I hope this help. Flickr: Search Lin.y.c's photostream I went to the hangar when LCF 3 was building. Don't forget to convert the vertical stablilizer (rudder) since they did make it higher. I intended to make a custom LCF in 1/200 too because 1/500 is too small but it's too hard to me. |

Just wondering, is she going to be painted up in bare metal on the original parts, all green, or white?
The Boeing Store also has a LCF model in 1:100 scale for $475 . |

I am not sure about the scale of RS LCF, they should be 1/200 or 1/130 I think.

Do you have a spare 747SP there? Cause the LCF is equipped with an "-SP tail"

there is no 1/200 plastic kit so you may have to vandalise a snap-to kit for the SP tail. |

now why didnt i think of scrapping a SP for it!??? i may be able to just order the tail from flight miniatures....through their shipping rates are through the roof.
i suppose i can also mod my own. |

No point modding it. Just get an extra tail for the SP from FM. If I'm not mistaken they're in CA aern't they, as are you?

i think they are in arizona, a state away from me.
i may mod it myself as FM tails have no detail on them. plus they charge $8 in shipping for an item that can be easily shipped for less than $1.83. maybe even as low as $0.50. i dont even see a SP tail avaliable from them. |

Their shipping costs are astronomical. I don't know how the hell they work it out. I try not to buy from them if possible.

sometimes things must get dirtier before they get prettier. i still am unsure if this project will be successful or not. im documenting my process for those who want to try it themselves. I'm taking all the risk for you guys already
im working off of these two pictures. make anet your best friend. top chopped off ![]() bought a 1.25in diameter overflow kitchen sink drainage PVC pipe from my local hardware store and cut it down to length (PVC will NOT glue properly with epoxy or superglue to plastic. you MUST roughen the surface first...will be discussed later) ![]() a quick test fit shows that i made the fuselage cut a tad too low as the bulge sits a bit lower. all you really need is the length of the flat part of the bulge, the sloping areas you will need to shape it with a product called milliput. will correct the height with boosters in the fuselage later. ![]() always always remember to add weights. i got 47g of lead in here plus the standard hasegawa kit ballasts and i may add more just to be safe. this fuselage already weighs about twice the weight of a standard hogan model ![]() make styrene backings for the windows so putty can fill it properly and smoothen up your edges with an utility knife or very coarse sandpaper. i think i filled that front door up that i wasnt supposed to. oops ![]() Then you are good to go for the next round. Stay Tuned! Last edited by B-16707; 04-14-2008 at 03:10 AM. |

The real plane under process was cut from the middle of the passenger windows. Just want to tell you that buy I think you can still use putty or sth to modify. Also, LCF is bit longer than 747-400.

yea the whole point was to use putty for the sides, as the sides arent full circles in cross section and ill extend it downwards
the lcf is only 4 feet longer. im not going to do anything about that as it is neglectable. Last edited by B-16707; 04-14-2008 at 12:30 PM. |

Brass ones man, brass ones!
I consider the 747 to 747SP taper to be one of the few conversions I would give a 10 for degree of difficulty. Add that to the sculpted curves of the LCF and you're going to need a case of Shiner Bock handy! |

ok heres what i got so far.
made a rudimentary support for the tube to boost it higher up by about 2mm since i cut the fuselage down lower than i wanted it to go. added 2 more lead weights for a total of 9 7g weights. very heavy! ![]() first time actually for me using epoxy. roughened up the tube and the supports with some coarse sandpaper so the glue will adhere better. i actually dont know if this will hold or if i mixed it right. its a 60min epoxy so i guess i will find out later. my wire cutters are just there to hold it down while it sets ![]() so until tomorrow! tomorrow i will insert "covers" to cover the two ends of the tube so my milliput has a backing to stick to and also begin the mulliput process. this one is going to take the longest so while that milliput dries, ill go mod the tail.
