Default detailing a skymarks model

My wife picked up a 1:130 scale Skymarks Airtran 717-200 (new colors) at one of local hobby stores the other day because she knew I was wanting an Airtran model since thats the airline we usually fly. I have a collection of 1:200 Hogan models and I'll set this one somewhere else because it's not the same scale but it was still nice of her! Anyway, I am wondering how to make the engine and wing colors more detailed. I see that both areas could use some more color detail and was wondering what paint colors, type, and techniques you all use to do this. I also noticed that it doesn't have the black painted area right below the windshield so I would also like to add that. Thanks for your help and any detailed instructions and or photos of similar projects would be helpful.

what a nice wife! if a girl gave me an airplane ill know shes a keeper haha. jk
if you have the time its easy cheesy

zubart has done it. contact him for picture uploads of his detailed skymarks aloha 737

and i have done it, and continue to do it to my skymarks/risesoon 1:200s

i personally use tamiya acrylics: matte aluminum for the lips of the nacelles and a gunmetal for the fan blades. the exhaust cones vary from a metallic bronze or flat light grey, sometimes the gunmetal too. all hand painted

your windshield black area would be harder you could mask out the parts that you dont want to get paint on and then spray it with black. handpainting that wouldnt give you a good desired result since handpainting usually leaves a thicker coat of paint.

btw have you seen crownvic's rare airtran sample 737 sale?

Yup, crownvics is already sold. I've checked Zubarts and your links and they are all just red "x"s now...maybe posts are too old. I sent him a PM to see if he could re-send them to me. If you can, could you post here or PM me some pics of yours? Thanks alot! BTW, my wife is cringing when I told her about the upcoming Gemini 200 releases (hopefully some 737s). It already drives her nuts that I take up a whole wall in our office full of 1:200 scale models (mostly Hogan domestic/USA airlines)...lol!

edit: I was able to view your Emirates A340 & 777 engines...wow! Those look great! Are they airbrushed or hand brush painted?

there should be pics remaining on my threads...which are the more important ones. all were handpainted. i dont use my airbrush for tiny things, only for wide areas that need covering like different colored underbellys or gray wings, etc. so they are are all handpainted. i forgot my brush size but its small. (not at my workbench right now)

i assume you have this? http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/...iew-12423.html
there is no black anti glare in the front?

btw the airtran 717 engines on a skymarks model looks spot on without extra painting...minus the fan blades.
anet is being stupid right now so i can thumbnail a pic here but go to this link

Well, I have the newer/white colors one...

http://www.skymarksmodels.com/cataloglarge/skr129.jpg

No black anti glare on this one....unfortunately. The engine nacelle color is fairly close now that you mention it but it could at least use some fan blade color and black inside the rear exhaust area. Maybe just a bit of different grey on the nacelles to make it look a bit more metal and not so "plasticy". Fortunately for me I get to fly on Airtran at least once a month alot for work and a few times a year for personal use. Unfortunately, my 1:200 collection is waiting (did I mention waiting?!?) for a decent model of some 717s and 737-700s so for now I'll try to fix up my 1:130! Thanks kaitanium for your info so far....I really appreciate the help!

oops posted the old colors, my fault.

do the engines come off the model by any chance? and do they come apart? and by apart i mean does the exhaust cone come out, the fan blades with the lip come out?
