Hey everyone! In this lesson you will learn how to, mask, paint-with-brush, undercoat & finish.
Masking: I will show you some techniques on how to mask. You will need a roll of masking tape of your choice. To mask off lines i.e. on a wing, lets say you want to paint the gorogurad, you need to mask off the surrounding areas. If you are doing a Hasegawa kit(John), there are lines the seperate the goro. from the other parts. So this means you tape right on the line, like so... ![]() ![]() For undercoats, I use Tamiya white primer from the can. This stuff works really well, and its very sturdy. ![]() For a finishing coat, I use Future floor wax. It seals it excellent and gives it a very nice shine. Or, if you want a dull and not shiny coat, use Testors 'Dull Cote. You can also use Testors 'Gloss Cote' to, insted of the Future. ![]() ![]() When brushing on the Future, use even strokes. Dont fill the brush up too much with wax, but just enough. Don't stroke over the parts that you already brushed. It usually takes about three coats to give it that shin and fully seal it. ![]() Painting with a brush. A lof of you guys dont have airbrushes. Dont feel bad, painting the right way with a brush can give you the same effect of an airbrush! Use a paint pallat. Put just enough paint in it. Take your brush and fill the bristles half way, then, brush even strokes with the brush. Brush from front to back. Dont overlap an already painted spot. Do as many coats as you need. Usa fat brush. ![]() ![]() If you want, you can use paint cans. They are really effective too. I Painted my IL-86 with them & Zubart does all his work with them. ![]() Weight. As a nose weight for an airplane, I suggest good old clay. Its a great product ![]() ![]() Always have book or internet references. ![]()

Decals. If your decals have yellowing in them, put them in a Ziplock bag and tape them to a sunny window or car dashboard. After a couple of days, they will start to change back.
![]() John, get this book!! It is the best modeling guide ever!! ![]() Thanks for reading ![]()
