Default Cleaning and fixing peeling decals

Hello and please help!!

I have purchased some old (late 1960s era) Corgi and Lintoy Concordes. The decals on these are starting to peel. What is the best method of reattaching without ruining the decals or paint?

Also on one model a whole lot of gunk (I think it is the old glue from the decals mixed dust) is along the cheatline. How can I remove? What is good for cleaning the models without ruining paint or decals?

Should I use laquer or something once I have finished to protect the coating?

Thanks for any help.

If the gunk is decal glue mixed with dust a careful touch with a damp cotton swab might be all you need to clean it. The peeling decals may also just require a little water to "stick" again. Once you are ready for the finish use FUTURE floor wax, but apply it carefully, if you get too much of it on the model the decals can float off. Better to be careful and maybe do two or three applications of future. This will seal the decals and they will not peel again. Hope this helps you out.

Exclamation Cleaning adhesive decals

Jehangir is refering to adhesive tape decals, made of plastic film, such as was used for the old Lintoys.

The procedure described by BU767 is for water decals. Take care!

Regarding the old Lintoy/Corgi there's not much you can do. I usually put the models in warm soap-water for a few minutes and clean them in the water with a medium hard brush. Try to reach also the dusty section between the decal and the model.
After cleaning I use simple, clear glue to reattach the decals.
Work must be done carefully.

If above comes into play, I am dealing mostly with some playworn models, where also paint needs to be restored. The impression after all that work is done, is "acceptable". It is not possible to return them completely into "new" models.

If you have unplayed models, just with some peeled off decals, you must be very carefully not to make it worse. In case of doubts, leave them as they are.

Below shows a Lintoy NASA 747. As you can see, no chance to recover the effect of 30 years aging......
