That looks fantastic! I assume you use an ALPS printer to print your decals?

I have a small graveyard of aircraft and parts that suffered terribly from my early days of improper disassembly, over-zealous acetone stripping, lousy paints, incompatible solvents, oddball masking materials, tons of bad prints, humid airbrushing reactions, poorly researched liveries, dissolved decals, dust, dirt, fuzzbunnies, knats (yes, knats!), inappropriate base models, overambitious projects... Whew... there's a hell of a learning curve doing these... and it's certainly not cheap when I think about it. You just have to botch some models to gain the knowledge to be successful... and to be innovative where ever possible in the process! Again (as always) we tip our hat to Chris for setting the bar in custom models! Salute!

I don't see what is wrong with giving advice. I feel it is ridiculous to tell someone to go out and ruin a couple of planes so they can learn (when you already know how to do it). I have ruined some planes in the past, but I just don't feel that others should (so they can learn). This is just the way I feel.
I do my customs because I enjoy creating them and nothing would please me more than to have others be able to create a model that they love or want (without paying an arm and a leg for it) . I will always be more than happy to help others out.

On the other hand, guiding or coaxing the student to experience the joy and satisfaction of their own discoveries and accomplishment brings lifelong comprehension, true appreciation, and understanding the potential of that knowledge! In short... If one has a genuine desire to make nice custom models... they'll need the patience, focus and determination to explore and experience the trials and tribulations of the craft... It is a craft in every sense of the word and not a lot of folks possess the skills and aptitude for working at that scale. If it really interests someone... they should research it and try it out with some basic supplies and start making mistakes right away cause that is the most effective way to learn!

IMHO, whether Chris/Vikings Customs elect to reveal his trade secrets or not - that is totally and absolutely up to his own discretion and prerogative and his decision deserves to be respected by others here. If he created or developed procedures/tricks to enhance his work - great and more power to himself. I do admire his skills and crafts and he is definitely excellent at what he is good at.
If it were me, I sure won't be just giving out away for free my trade secrets after all the efforts, time, waste and money that has costed me to get something right. I must be a real dope to do such ! Why do you think that there is patents and trademarks out there in the corporate world ? For e.g.: If you were to go up to Dragon Wings or Gemini Jets and ask them how they got their FedEx purple right to do their models - do you think that they will acknowledge your inquiry ? I guess not. Also, in my 20+ years of collecting airline display models of all kinds - I have never ever been revealed of any trade secrets in the world of model collecting, I had to find out and experience everything for myself firsthand costing me dearly in the process through the years. I do always have many people coming up to me to ask for my help and expertise on my vast knowledge of airliner models, but nowadays I keep my lips sealed ! Don't get me wrong as to you thinking that I am anti-social or something like that. I used to share my secrets and expertise years ago to my fellow peers and even though this all is suppose to be hobby altogether - the sad and true fact is that there is way too much animosity in general in this hobby and wherever you go in this world, people WILL take advantage of you for being a sucker ! People will only "know" you and also be "friends" with you, if you have something to offer for free. But when its gonna cost money or you won't reveal your secrets, you will be immediately typecasted as being anti-social and "unfriendly". Well, as for Chris - he is smart enough to keep his hobby trade secrets to himself. I am sure that he is not dumb enough to do otherwise and in the process getting competition who might do better than him using his info to put him out of business in the die-cast customizing world especially when he has invested personal capital into perfecting his skills. Hey....face the facts: if you were to go to a Home Depot to get paint mixed to your liking and specifications - do you think they will they tell you their trade secrets on how they get the paint mixing perfect to your liking ? I will think that they will laugh at you silly and you will have to pay to get what you want ! In the end, wherever you go - you will always find "cry babies" crying to get something handed out for free and to leach off from. You give them something for free, they will eat out of your hands greedily like a squirrel gathering pine corns and nuts and then vanishing and never hearing from them again. But as soon as you tell them no or say nothing, right away they will talk negative about you just like a baboon picking up it faeces and throwing it at you in the zoo....figures. Speaking for myself and Chris, I sincerely think that we are way too mature for these pitiful cries. Do note once again that, not giving out any information has nothing to do with being unfriendly or anti-social or whatever ! And if you are indeed a grown, educated individual - you won't be asking Chris to reveal his secrets in the first place and even if you do and he says no, you should be mature enough to respect his wishes and not starting to talk negative on him in here for not sharing. Last but NOT least, nothing in this world is for free and definitely everything has a price on it. Lesson to be learned here is that silence is gold and if you have nothing good to say, don't say it other than keeping those negative thoughts to yourself rather than airing them in a public forum. Mature individuals sure don't have the time to oogle at these infantile diatribes. Don't like or disagree with what I stated in here....though luck ! Take it or leave it. MY 2 cents worth on this issue....
