I was able to get a second hand Herpa Premium 1/200 Lufthansa 727-200.
Other than being extremely yellowed on the fuselage the plane's body is in perfect shape and no broken parts at all. It seems that the plane was exposed to direct sunlight for a long time. The silver part on the fuselage's lower mid section's gone in parts and also on some other parts of the wings control/leading edge surfaces. As I was cleaning the plane I could tell that it was handled many times. The natural parts to grab the plane are the areas where the paint is missing. That include the engines area. The box is in perfect shape, kind of funny. I called Herpa few days ago and I was able to speak to Andreas Spector. He told me that the model is 10 years plus old and that the only assistance they could provide with, is lading gear replacement. He also mention about the yellowing being a normal aging "fenomeno" for models made of plastic. Mr. Spector told me that they could not put the plane apart for me due to liability (I asked him if they would do this for me in case I could give it a paint job) Mr. Spector suggested to get in touch with other collectors to see how they go on fixing their models and maybe using thin foil, the type used on model making. Thanks to another collector, David's tip,I was able to get the model apart almost completely. David told me the exact location of two screws and how to get to them. This was done w/o damaging any part of the plane. The only thing that I was not able to separate was the wings from the lower half part of the fuselage. After I got the plane apart I was able put it back together again to make sure I could repeat the process again. To put the plane back together is a lot easier than I thought. Right now the whole plane is in plastic bags to protect it from scratches or missing parts. I doubt that the exact livery is goint to be seen in this model again, I may give a second operator a chance (new livery) The fact that the whites areas are extremely yellow calls for paint to be applied. This is a pretty nice model and deserves the best service you can get. I'm hoping that either Vikings or Hannibalhays may be interested on this proyect (I mention their names since I know their work) Remember that this may be a rare opportunity to work on a Premium and who knows....you may get more requests coming forward. Many Thanks!!! Yuri G. Rivera A Herpa Premium Second operator __________________ |
