Default Model making

How, in brief, are custom models made? Are they painted, decaled?

Many thanks,

sometimes both. It depends on the livery.

Do custom models tend to look like Schabaks, or are they superior?

It depends on who makes the custom plane.

There are some folks here at DAC that make awsome customs. I have a few of their fine art work myself. I am sure it is a trial and error endeavour. I would stress patience...

Thanks, Guys.

Assuming they are well done, would they tend to look like Geminis or Herpas (barring extraordinary scrutiny), or like Schabaks?

I now have six by Hannibal Hays (Braniff 'hot pink' A.380, Braniff 'Gold' A.380, Braniff 'Green' 747-100, Delta (-flot) L.1011-500, Pan Am A.320, Playboy B.717) and one by Vikings (Air Canada 'Raptor' A.320) - all are excellent! Very hard to detect the edges of the decals, all are up to DW, GJ standards, and well ahead of Schabak!

I have two of Viking's Frontier A319, and they are amazing, if I place them next to the DW 737's there is almost no telling the difference on who made what. He even went as far to apply some paint on the inboard winglets to appear like the animal tail is reproduced there.
