Talking My first custom...no laughing!

Piedmont's first jets. 727-100-N68650-"Manhattan Pacemaker" and 737-201- N737N- "Piedmont Pacemaker". Piedmont leased 2 727s in 1967 awaiting the delivery of it's 737s. This 727 was lost in a mid-air with a Twin Cessna in Hendersonville, NC.

Cool Those are cool! Piedmont's best scheme.

Both planes are excellent. I wish we would see more Piedmont's since only the B 732 has been done by Gemini and the 767ER would be nice. Even if their was someway to get that Hogan YS-11 to have it done in both schemes.

Thanks guys. They are 1:400. The 737 was a GJ LH and the 727 a Dragon AA. I looked at the LH and realized how much it was like the original PI scheme and decided to give it a try. I just erased the LH names and put the decals over the cheatline. The 727 got a few more coats of clear after looking at the picture and seeing the decal lines. I used Bel's clear and white sheets for inkjet printers and they are pretty thick after putting the overcoat on.

Yugakings- Back when Tradewinds had their CL-44s an L1011s parked at GSO I used to take my son there. He really liked checking them out. I fly for USAirways, so I get most of my watching at work. Have you ever been to the museum at CLT? They have a few good items and their ramp is a great place to watch rnwy 18L-36R. They have the forward section of a C-97 mounted on a trailer that you can go in. My son loves that.

Tony

Next up: Metrojet 737-200 if I can find some White lettering and logo to scan.

Craig,

I would love to see more PI too. I went to see a certain Seattle retailer back in Feb, and he said he didn't think the GJ PI 737 sold too well, so I gave up hope on any more coming out. I had Vikings do a 727 and 767 for me. I have the Hogan YS-11, but I'm afraid to try this scheme on it-it is a little more complicated than the jets.

Maybe I need to try a Bill G ozark type campaign!

Yugakings,

I fly out of CLT. USAir closed the GSO base in 1990 and I never got around to moving. The viewing area by 18R is open again, and a good place for photos. Hungate's at the mall is the only hobby store I know of around here.

Yugakings,

I have about 9,000 hours in the 737, but I currently fly the 757/767. I have been dispalced to the Airbus 319/320/321, but don't know when I will be trained. The 737 shown is the first airplane I ever flew in at age 3, and the first one I flew on the line at Piedmont.

As for viewing at CLT, pick a day that the winds are out of the south and go in the afternoon. US's A330 flight from LGW and 767 from FRA come in around 14:30. BA's 767 from LGW comes in a little later. US's heavies usually use rnwy 18R.

richie,

The decals weren't too bad, but the painting was. Paint and I don't get along- I get more on me than the models. I miss those Smileliners too.

Great job on the Piedmont models. So you are going to be on the "Baby Bus"?
Just returned home from a Airbus 3 day trip with a 25 hour layover in Aruba. Both pilots were CLT instructors. Great guys, I enjoyed flying with them.

Michael,

I've flown DAY-LAX many times. Sad that soon US won't even be flying mainline jets into DAY. My father was the PI sation manager there for about 8 years.

I'm thinking about doing a 737-3-- or -400, but I don't really like DWs mould.

Tony,

Great job! Is the YS-11 1/400, or another scale?
I used to see 'em all the time at DCA when I lived near (in those days) rwy 18..right on the offset LDA!

What chemical did you use to erase the LH titles?

Cheers,

Don in Chicago (UAL Dispatch)

Thanks Chris!

Don-I used fingernail polish remover to get rid of the LH titles. The YS-11 I'm thinking about changing is a Hogan 1:200. Good luck to you guys at UAL!

Tony,
Best of luck to you guys also! I guess with the new code sharing agreement, we now have ID95's with you! Very helpful for me to get home to see Mom in HGR.

I have heard there IS a HW 1/500 YS-11. If you were ever to attempt a PI conversion, I would buy one from you!

Regards,
Don in Chicago
