After viewing the videos, I will have to say this man is in another level (SUPREME!) for making aviation models. What is even more impressive is that he is using manila file folders to construct the model/engines/landing gear!! The detail he is able to produce with this paper, is a lesson that metal/plastic model manufacturers can maybe pay some attention. Also, this 'highly' talented/skilled model maker is thumbs up in my books for selecting the Boeing 777 as his model of choice to build a 1/100 model! I look forward to seeing the final assembly of this T7 made of manila file folders, with hydraulic landing gear/engines with reverse thrust, etc.. Thank you to LanceB/MrMD11 for sharing this info. cheers! T7

And just think, I just chuck my old manilla folders in the bin. This bloke is simply amazing. I would love to see what he could do with plastic.

Most impressive !

Next he will probably install manilla turbines, and manilla cocpit crew, and passengers with manilla luggage. The possibilities are endless.

Look forward to the finished product.

Checkout You-Tube for his other video for the design and build of the Capt and FO seats.

The actuation and deployment of those blocker doors on the GE90-115B Fan Reverser are truly amazing. Thumbs Up!

Gives the term "paper airplane" a whole new meaning! That was absolutely awe inspiring. I cant even fathom the patience, let alone the dexterity and sheer brainpower it would take to do this. This guy has a future but I'm not exactly sure what it is.....brain surgery, engineering, origami...who knows.

This one tops any facet of building models and of the most basic materials! This is a great find! Thanks for sharing with us Lance. This really has me thinking of paper airplanes...

Every time I feel smart for solving a mediocre problem, I find stuff like this and guys who put rovers on Mars....then drop my head.

These folks are using a little more brain power than the rest of us.

That is literally insane and amazing work. The level of patience and detail of his "cuts" is beyond my level of comprehension. I've done work with balsa wood, plastic sheets, thin aluminum but not even close to his level of precision.

The thing I didn't get was how the material was bonded together? Was that other sheet to the left his "adhesive" or did I miss that part?

He has the creative talents of an artist and the technical brilliance of an engineer ... this kid will be going places!

Hey everyone,
I'm the manila plane guy! I came across this thread a while back and have wanted to respond for a long time. Unfortunately, it took a looooooong time for my account to be activated. Anyway, just wanted to thank everyone for the feedback and the comments—they really mean a lot! I'm glad that you've all been enjoying following my psychotic hobby haha.

Progress on the model has been somewhat slow, but I'll be sure to let you all know when I have more to share In the meantime, a few teaser pics!

Hey manilaplane ... your paper rendition of a 777 is awe-inspiring! I honestly cannot say I have EVER seen anything like it, and I'm sure that most other aviation enthusiasts would probably concur. Your attention-to-detail using such a challenging medium is second-to-none, and I can only imagine what you could do with other materials such as plastics and others.

Likewise, do you do any 3-dimensional modeling using design software like Solidworks or similar? How about 3-D printing? The reason I ask is because with your design and engineering skills you could really "have fun" with such technologies I would imagine! I would say that "the sky's the limit" for you ... I'm VERY impressed!

Totally agree ... but in this case, I think he may have just been born with this amazing talent. After all, they certainly don't teach "Aircraft Structural Design Engineering Using Manila File Folders" in college ... do they?

Well! I think everyone on the DAC can actually agree on this = On behalf of the DAC collectors/members, I would like to extend a very warm welcome aboard the DAC forum to you and your 'rare' modelling skills!! I am sorry to hear that you were experiencing some lengthy difficulties getting activated; there's been a shakeup on this forum these past few months and we are trying to get by with the current user environment. However, the most important thing is that you are now able to join in on these threads.

I can't speak for others on the DAC, but I am sure very interested on how you can produce such 'exceptional/jaw dropping' detailing with manila file folders as your base. I salute you for picking the Triple 7 as your airliner choice, it really is the World's Best Aircraft. (kudos for the 3-3-3 layout in your cabin; I've flown in the 3-4-3 config = not comfy!)

Cheers! T7

I keep telling myself ... there is NO WAY POSSIBLE to make a functional 777 nose gear or operational thrust reverser out of Manila file folders.

Yet HE DID IT!!! He achieved the IMPOSSIBLE!!!

Honestly, I'm not quite sure how I do it either. If anything, I take my time and re-do things that don't turn out quite right. Practice really does make perfect in this case, and I've been doing this for many years. My initial attempts were nothing like what you're seeing, so it's a skill I've heavily refined over time. Also, it helps to work on one small section or part at a time, as I don't get overwhelmed and it keeps me focused. It's really a work-in-progress!

I LOVE the T7! I'm sure that's apparent. So I 100% agree that it's one of the best, if not THE best-looking airplanes around. I just think that—particularly on the 77W—the proportions are perfect; long and sleek, yet beefy enough to look powerful. Plus, the raked wingitps, massive engines and 6-wheel MLG give it a very aggressive and powerful look. Absolutely love it! I'm really hoping the 777X isn't ugly, but I'll admit I'm a bit worried.
