This is a fun looking airport. Even the isolated shot of the DC-9 is the best I've seen; a real go attitude.

I like your Honolulu scenery, rich detailled and a good atmosphere! With Hawaiian you have the rare opportunity to put the beautiful Boeing 717 on a model airport scene!

Re: Honolulu Inter Island Terminal 1/400
IflyHA,
It looks like you switched out the landing gear on some models (e.g. the 767, A330). How easy/difficult was it and how did you do it? My attempts to remove gear failed because the glue seemed too difficult to soften even with hot water and steam.
Also, did you request parts from the retailer/manufacturer or cannibalize another model?

Re: Honolulu Inter Island Terminal 1/400
all in all, its pretty easy. The best thing to do ( I have found, that using wire clippers to remove the gear works quite well, but wrap a small piece of toilet paper around the gear to make sure you do not remove paint, overly bend it, etc ) Glue is important as well... I use modeling glue, strong glue that dries almost within 20 seconds. The A330 you see is a GJ with Phoenix gear. Sometimes, while buying models, they come flawed, and ill modify it, so immediately, I lose value. Over the years of my collecting, I have collected gear, engines, almost every type of tail for planes. I keep them in a box, sorted out by aircraft. Sort of my arsenal for when I customize the planes. Most gear are similar in design as to the shape of them at the base, so fitting them to other manufacturers planes isn't too hard. Occasionally, I need to size it down a bit, but it isn't hard. I only do these customizations when I know I have more than one back up pair of gear, engines etc, just in the off case that I mess them up beyond repair.
As for the hot water and steam, I have never once had to do that. A firm grip with nail clippers, or wire cutters has always done the job for me. Nose gear is sometimes tricky but GJ are usually very easy to remove being thick gear and not as fragile as PHX or AC. Older AC models I do not even fudge with because A. the gear are pretty good for the scale. B the zinc material used in the get proves 90% of the time to be a downfall of customization, removing the gear and the base that glues into the wing almost always breaks up, leaving me with that. Pain in the butt.
My customizations you see are on planes that I have 1-2 stored away, so some modifications are fine for me because I have mint ones boxed up. I typically will not mess with a model unless I am certain that the customization will be 100% successful.
As for parts, I do not contact the retailer. Haven't had to. Have saved every gear from planes that over the years have broken. To me, everything is salvageable , including wheels.

Amazing progress, well done! Brings back memories of spending the night on the hard floors once, and the subsequent last minute ticket on Hawaiian HNL-SJC that got me home.

Re: Honolulu Inter Island Terminal 1/400
Updated photos of this project. Now that I graduated High school, I have had more time to complete this project. Eventually I will be building a display for this before I head off to college. I extended the tarmac about an inch and a half. More true to the real airport. I also added some weathering to the tarmac, and added people (ground crew). I also sanded the asphalt to take away some of the shine. Eventually, I may resurface it to a color more true to asphalt. Enjoy the pics!

Re: Honolulu Inter Island Terminal 1/400
What you might see in Honolulu from 1996-2001. Good old days with the DC-9s in the colorful Pualani Livery. My favorite livery of all time. Have nearly the entire DC-9 fleet. All customized and made the different registration numbers.
N650HA - 7/12/2000
N699HA - 12/25/2001
N679HA - 3/1/2001
N709HA - 2/2001
N601AP - 1/2001 - "Hana"
N420EA - 2/13/2000 - "Kahului"
N672MC - 2/24/2001 - "Kailua Kona"
N661HA - 2/2001 - "Kaunakakai"
N660HA - 3/1-2001 - "Kamuela"
N673MC
N662HA - "Lihue"
All in my Hawaiian Collection - Still need
N669HA
N674MC
N603DC - "Lanai City"
N649HA - Kukui
N689HA
Enjoy the Pics!

Re: Honolulu Inter Island Terminal 1/400
I added more detail to the Aloha section of the terminal. Redid the yellow lines and made them more accurate to the real thing.
The mess of gray paint on the building was fixed too.
