This was an excellent promotion, and if a few people donated more money because they knew a free airplane was theirs for the taking...well, so be it.
The idea was to get collectors to donate, and some collectors responded positively, in effect, making this promotion a success.
Now, what is the problem with that?
Is it possible that $2500 would not have been collected by the Red Cross or other charities if Jet-X hadn't run the promotion? Unfortunately, the answer is yes. Sometimes, even during times of tragedy, people tend to play the "what's in it for me?" angle. I'm not suggesting that's what happened here...but if you already made a donation, and were digging deep into your wallet and trying to justify another donation, getting a free model made it easier to justify...and, dare I say it, okay to do so.
My wife and I each have been donating seventy-five to one hundred dollars every week since September 11th. So far we've donated eight hundred dollars. Did I do this because we wanted 40 models? Absolutely not. But getting a thank-you in the form of a few free models from Jet-X was and is appreciated.
Dave, you may not like this promotion, or like Jet-X for that matter. Bottom line, however, is that this promo was a good idea for a good cause.
Now get over it already.
Marc
