Ha! I knew it would finally come!
Finally! One of the coolest DC-8 liveries ever! Back in May there was a discussion here on what we all thought the next Skyjets release would be and ContinentalCrew wanted to know why I was going to put my money down on JAL back then. Here's what I posted back then in response:
"...here's why I'm betting on JAL as the next Skyjets release- We haven't yet had a DC-8 from Asia- we got'em from N. America and Europe, no problem. Of all the Asian carriers, JAL's history is very closely intertwined with the DC-8 ever since they introduced the DC-8-32 on the Tokyo-San Francisco route- their first jet route, in 1960, followed closely by the Tokyo-Hong Kong route later that same year. The following year JAL inaugurates polar service to London-Heathrow and Copenhagen. All of it on DC-8s."
"Until the 747s were placed in revenue service, the DC-8 was the standard long-haul jet for JAL. Just look at their route expansion in the 60s- all thanks to the DC-8. As a matter of fact, when I think of Asian/Pacific Rim carriers, 4 names come to mind- Cathay, Singapore, QANTAS, and JAL. Singapore is the youngest and never had a DC-8. Cathay and QANTAS used 707s. Only JAL used the DC-8 and had a network that is still extensive to this day. "
"The Tsurumaru (crane) logo that is now famous wasn't introduced until 1965, five years after the DC-8s entered service. It would be neat to see the DC-8 in the delivery livery AS WELL as the Tsurumaru livery. I'd get BOTH!"
KICKA$$! (One pleased barnyard fowl)
