Virginfans sent me a damaged plane too (a small blemish on the rear upper fuselage of a 1/400 747). He tried the old 'must have happened in the post' routine on me too but the inner and outer packaging was perfect . He wouldn't budge so I started a Paypal claim.
Start a claim with Paypal forthwith explaining that the inner packaging and outer parcel was in good condition but the paint of the plane was severely damaged (your plane is in a much worse state than mine was).
Paypal ruled in my favour and I got my payment refunded in full, although I had to swallow the cost of sending the damaged item back to him.
I'll never deal with the guy again - even if he's selling IF200s BIN for a quid.
