This comment kinda slide to offtopic, but what the heck.

Well some of the reasons why some particular airlines are still not on an alliance is that the airlines itself doesnt provide the "good service" that it requires to be a member. For example Philippine Airlines might be acquired by any of the three alliances in the world since PAL's inflight, ground service, and stuff isn't good enough. Star, OW, SKY would never let it's costumers fly on a lower grade airline, nobody wants that. I do hope someday for PAL that it will be a better airline than what it is right now.

Another example of a lower grade airline.
Oneworld withdrew Aer lingus membership in April 2007 when the airline turned itself into a low cost airline.
