Default Re: Fleet Building

Yes, if you plan on fleet building, go with an airline that you like...something that may be near to your heart. Hopefully, there's a good selection of models to choose from in the airline and livery combo you select. But if not, you could just do what I'm doing and make some customs!

Even though I've been collecting for nearly 10 years, I have never considered fleet building until very recently. Up until a few months ago, I didn't have more than one of any model in my collection. However, I picked up a second Jet-X USAir MD-80 in 1990s colors, and plan to expand on the USAir fleet some more. USAir is an airline I grew up with in Syracuse, NY, and I'd like to have a nice fleet of everything in 1990s colors. I just finished up a custom USAir 727-200 in 1990s colors, which I absolutely love, and am considering doing a custom DC-9-30 (the Net Models one looks like garbage) and 757-200. I really hope Aeroclassics does an F-28-1000 and -4000 in USAir colors, and I'm hoping somebody comes out with a nice Fokker 100 mold sometime in the future. I think it'll happen.

I'm also working on building up my Delta fleet, because starting in college, they became my favorite airline. I went bonkers when they came out with the 2000 "Deltaflot" colors. Some people hate it, but I thought it was great, and I loved it on the 727-200. I would purposely schedule myself on as many 727 flights as I could whenever I flew somewhere so I could try and get on the ones in new colors. I eventually got on 6 of the 8 in new colors. Anyway, my goal is to have a big ol' fleet of Delta birds in Widget, interim, and 2000 colors to represent how the fleet looked around 2000-2003, which was my favorite period for Delta for a variety of reasons. I've got a custom 737-200 in mainline 2000 colors in the works, and will be starting on a 737-200 and -300 in interim colors soon. I'm also going to spruce up some DW 737-800s too (they look too toy-like out of the box). It should be a pretty impressive collection by year's end!
