Default Herpa 1:200

As i've mentioned in other threads today, I was at ARD yesterday. was there for a good hour looking at models and talking about the sorry state of our beloved country, England.

Whilst trying to decide what to spend my overtime money on, I saw the Herpa range of 200's, more importantly to me, the A380.

Paul kindly pointed me to one which was on display, but semi hidden away. Having examined the model I have to say I wasn't that impress, mainly with the undercarriage.

I thought to myself, well it's not that bad, I guess it must be considerably cheaper than the diecasts....but then I saw the price tag, £49.99.

What!?!?! I'm thinking to myself, how is this possible. I dread to think how much profit Herpa make from each model. Yes, I understand there set-up costs per mould are in their thousands, but as far as I am concerned £49.99 for the product seemed far too much.

I'm not sure if its because I've been used to the good ole diecast or what, but I struggle to put diecast 1:200 and plastic 1:200's in the same league. Yes, they are more affordable than the IF200's, but they are also more expensive than Gemini's current range of 200's, which looks promising apart from their QC issues (covered in other threads).

I really want to give the Herpa models more of a chance.

I'm sure plastic has its positives, in fact I'm sure of it. However, the question I put to everyone is, do you not think they are a little overpriced?
