This decision came in a few days ago. This decision is largely based on the capability shortfall between the impending retirement of the 'Pig' (2010) and a likely 2 year delay on the F-35 program. Deliveries from July next year and the potential for F/A-18G Growlers to be included in the future.

Interestingly, Boeing has said that it is starting talks with Brazil and Denmark for Super Hornets.
