Building a diorama: Day last
Dirt! Where would any self respecting JFK ramp be without it. Its what I loved most about the old JFK. Taxiways crossed over old asphalt ramps and concrete patches. Parking areas that were part asphalt and part concrete and jet exhaust covering everything. Gas spills, grease stains and tire tracks built up over the years gave the airport its true character. After painting on some white, yellow and red lines we added, you guessed it, DIRT!. Might have overdone it a little but can soften it up. The next time you see this one will be over on 1/400 highlighting my TIA collection and some other charters.
For those who want to know the average time per day I spent on this was approx 2 hrs.... one day I worked on it for 5 hrs. I used dark grey and black artist chalk on a paper towel to "dirty it up". The guard shack/blast fence hangar doors made from evergreen plastic, everthing else is cardboard. Paint used Testors Flat White,Yellow and Red.
