My position on Boeing's latest delay hasn't changed - it is what it is!!! They've bought themselves at least 3 more months' time to solve their problems with their suppliers. Now is not the time to point fingers at each other but rather sit together and discuss how these problems can be averted when the B787 goes into production. They still have to increase their production rate to compensate for the delays. Obviously, the hardest hit airlines are the ones who are supposed to take deliveries of the B787 from May 2008 till end of 2009.
Hopefully, Boeing will be able to make it up by increasing their production rate down the road. I will expect some "turbulence" during the first 3-6 months of production, which is normal for any new aircraft. As for testing and certification, I really hope Boeing won't stick to their compressed schedule as it is a very risky move. After all, we don't like hear about a 4th delay, do we?
