Most of the issues I've had with packaging revolve around Canada Customs opening the delivery box to look inside. By the time it arrives at my doorstep, the hack job that they did re-packing the box has resulted in damage.

I have contacted Canada Customs regarding this matter. My understanding of their position is that if the shipper better described the contents of the box, then they would not be required to open it - effectively putting the blame back on the sender. Funny thing is some cases, the description on the Customs Forms clearly explains what's inside - must be at the discretion of the inspector working that day...

Buying domestic is the only way around this issue that I can figure out. However, that can be difficult with the limited availability of some items.
