I wasn't doubting that he studied both but I just wanted to say that there's a difference between Astronomy and Astrology. Astronomy is science-based while Astrology is not.

Correct me if I am wrong but after reading the below article, the only sensible reason I can think of is because of the rising obesity rate among the Americans. It was interesting to see the changes on the interactive map.
