I knew they never had these WMDs. While I'll never forget what happened that tragic day, I can't help but get the impression that Bush decided to go after Saddam because he was perceived as an easier target and one which his spin-doctors could rally up support for. Face it, just before Bush started drumming up support for the Iraq war Bin Laden's trail had gone dead cold. Now we must rely on Pakistan (who might I add are doing a damn good job) to deal with capturing these terrorists because America's too busy getting itself untangled from the Iraq issue. While I'm very pleased with the way the elections went and hope for the best in Iraq, Bush really could have waited a bit longer. In the meantime America could have rounded up more terrorists, and put together a much stronger coalition for Iraq and a much better game plan and perhaps the deaths of so many American soldiers, Iraqi civilians, and foreign aid workers could have been prevented.
I'll agree that the UN seems to have fallen from grace over the past few years. The fact that UNSC members simply couldn't come to a reasonable compromise over Iraq because of national interests, the UN's inability to deal with the Darfur crisis, and the recent scandal which involved Kofi Anan's son in the 'Oil-for-Food' program (which really wasn't working too well in the first place). Whether the UN will ever become the uniting body of the world is anyone's guess really.
James, if you think your immature name-calling will change other people's minds then you're 'DEAD WRONG' (a lot like Bush's WMD claim!

). All I see is someone who cannot articulately get their point across so they think of these names like Dumbocrats (which might I add is quite funny though).
The way I see it, America needs a third way. A party made up of a group of moderates who are more in to smart diplomacy where war is the absolute last resort (the same sort of thing Bush is doing with Iran and North Korea after he tied up all our military resources in Iraq), a party that will lift these protectionist policies which benefit American drug companies, a party that gives people the right to live freely and express themselves freely in a manner that does not harm others, a party that invests more money in education than fuel and farm subsidies, a party that devotes more funding to alternative fuel sources than in to finding ways to get more oil out of the ground, a party that knows how to balance economic needs with environmental needs, a party that is completely honest with its people and does not try to weasel its way out of past mistakes with mindless waffle. Unfortunately neither party seems to be doing a very good job of this although I find the Democrats to be the lesser of the two evils. Call me a dreamer but this third way is just what this country needs.
