One interesting cockpit I visited was several weeks ago at the Southwest maintenance base at DAL- they had a 737-300 undergoing what they call a "quarter-D" check which left it about a quarter stripped out. Southwest, however, is fitting HUDs to all of their 737s (except the -200s) to allow full Cat III landings and so this particular -300's cockpit was pretty stripped out- you could even see outside beyond the forward bulkhead where the weather radar is mounted from INSIDE the cockpit. This was an early model -300 and the mass of wiring is simply astounding.
