Default SQ model questions

Hi all

Visited the Orchard Store in Singapore yesterday to have a look at their models.

So I saw this 1:500 SQ 50th Anniversary livery 777-200. The lady in the store quoted me SGD95 (about US$68). While I thought that's quite steep, considering I once paid SGD80 (about US$57) for the SQ Tropical 744, is that $95 price tag acceptable or do I have too high expectations?

Second thing is she told me SQ models will now be sold in 1:400 on the ground and 1:1000 inflight only. Anyone heard similar news? Seems bad for collectors of 1:500 if that's the case.

Thanks in advance.

The Orchard Store has really high prices on many of their models.

The 1:500 section with many Herpas has like models from S$50-S$99 and above, which is actually kinda high..

The Asian Games Qatar Airways "Blue" A330 was being sold for S$188!

But I buy from them, because they are the ones with Herpa 1:500s.

Btw, were there any new releases available when you went to the store?

I saw a lot of old yellowing herpa boxes. The newest thing introduced to me was an Air India 777 which I believe has been out for a while already.

I guess they've been having a difficult time selling whatever 1/500 items they still have in stock. I mean the Heritage sets were quite expensive and they are all still available, despite being meant only ofr their anniversary celebrations. I guess they feel they have "saturated" the market and would not want to take responsibility for any more releases. (Oh, the Heritage sets are now selling at a discounted price!)

The 1/400 market is larger than 1/500 (and I heard this is the reason MAS is also headed this way). The 1/1000 on the other hand satisfies the "souveneir" market. I guess this is the reason why SQ allowed Herpa to sell the MSA Comet in the regular collection. Let's hope Herpa then makes SQ models again, since SQ seems not anymore interested in our scale.

i used to visit the orchard store when i started collecting 2 years back.. but the prices and variety were not wide at all and i've stopped visiting them since.. have been buying from collectors or online shops..

As for the SQ models, i think it is only a temporary disruption as they wont be able to sell so many things in a moment or inflight.

having said that, SQ has got very few types of planes.. hence giving us the idea that they've nothing for sale at all..

even the models produced in 1:400 is only the B744 9V-SPG that has been around for a very long time.. when i did email krisshop their replies were the 1:500 A380 and B77W are out of stock for the moment.. so i don't think the problem lies with SQ but rather the manufacturer..

Thanks. I am looking for the Set 1. But 200USD is too much money for a Set.

I hope to find one at eBay with a reasonable price.

I am regretting haven't bought the Tropical model of Starjets years ago when it cost only US15-20. It's become a very very rare models besides the Heritage Set 1. In recent years I try to get "full" set of SQ models (except the OG B744, B777, B744F, dreamjets B772 and Sky500 A380) but it is still missing the Tropical(s) and I think it's overprice when I found at Ebay...

I hope Herpa or other manufacturers will produce the A330 model in 1/500 scale and re-produce the Tropical like Phoenix.

Orchard Store has always selling models at high prices as there are no more than 3shops in S'pore selling 1:500 models. That's why they can price models so high.

On the SQ B777-200 50th Livery, that model is a rare find now. It was made during the StarJets 1:500 time and that model was done under StarJet's "black market" models. They had B777-200 normal livery, 50th livery & A340 50th livery released with StarJets mould but 'black market' packing w/o StarJet's logo. But, my 50cents worth, if you don't have that model & you really want it, i guess you should buy it ($S95) since it's a really RARE model now.

Qatar Airways A330 blue @S$188?? Wow...that is high!!! But again, that model is a rare model too in the 1:500 market....

Are you talking about the DreamJets versions? On eBay you find them at $20~$40.

You can find at eBay for half the price.

Any chance of getting them cheaper in Hong Kong, or any where else? I still prefer to see models in the flesh (or more accurately, in the metal) before I buy.

One at Far East Plaza ( Which i dun think they have any new models )

Other is Nikko ??

I dun buy or search models in S'pore even i am living here, it's just not worth getting models here as compare to HK. I order from HK shops & with air-mail, it's still cheaper than S'pore

I wish I took better care of my Set 1. My DC-3 is missing, and the 777 had it's tailpaint erased due to constant washing and I accidentally sat on the 777 plane's nose causing the nose gear to snap off.

You can find them at the Airline Pilots Association Booth near the LUPA Model Makers booth. The model booths are all put together, side by side.

You can request nose gears from Herpa since those are Herpa models.

i bought the StarJets Singapore Tropical 744 years ago from the Orchard Store - got ripped off in a major way - $175 back then but I was desperate for it. Got the pair on that year and the other one only cost my $65 !!! The Orchard Store are rip off's in any language and I bought a few things from them but that was back in 2000-2002. I would not bother these days if I was in SIN!

I tend to look at the krisp store, I realise they don't have much of a selection BUT I think they were the cheapest for the heritage sets and singular sold aircraft. As I am currently wanting the SIA 777-300 which is cheaper online then anywhere else.

The Orchard Store just quoted me SDG$150 for the Singapore Airlines 777... The lady told me that it was very "cheap" considering that it is a very old model. KrisShop stopped selling all 1:500 models (other than the Heritage Series models, which I guess they're trying to clear, as it's at 30% off now) and they only sell 1:1000 and 1:400 models right now. But it wasn't told if they're still going to have 1:500's in the future.

The Orchard Store is ridiculously expensive. It quoted me $95 for the 50th anniv 772 (as I said before) and I just bought it somewhere else for $50 with shipping.

I bought the Singapore airlines heritage 3 from the kris shop over 2 years ago and to send it to the UK and the actual item was only £65, which i thought was cheap for 4models and postage :-D. I really want the 77W by them or the but not sure if the kris shop still sell them?
I havent been to SIN before, so can't comment on the store prices :-(, though I really want to go there one day.
