I hear that the nose opens and that there is a nice little "suprise" inside. Is this true?

It's true. There is a little present sitting at the edge as soon as you open the nose of the aircraft. This aircraft is partly plastic (Plastic fuselage and metal wings). Very lightweight. Overall...definitely worth getting.
