Default Herpa releases special models for the flood disaster

Quoting Wings World Magazine 1/2005:

HERPA WANTS TO HELP
Please support us!

Special models for the flood disaster: 100 percent of your donation are sent straight to those who suffered from the tsunami.

We have all seen the terrible pictures of the devastating tidal wave in Southeast Asia, and we will never forget them. On December 26, 2004, a tsunami killed more than 200,000 people, turning an entire region into disaster area, especially in Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and India. And it took days until the worldwide public became aware of how powerful the disastrous wave actually was, and how gravely the catastrophe had hit the region. Ever since, people from around the world have opened their purses in an unprecedented manner to help the victims.

We at Herpa, too, received lots of suggestions from collectors who said it would be a good idea to offer a special model from which the proceeds should be sent to those who suffered. Of course, Herpa wants to help, and that as tangibly as possible. In a few weeks, we will release a limited follow-up edition of 1,000 models of the Airbus A310-300 (MRT) of the Luftwaffe. Compared to the previous 1/500-scale editions, the model carries the registration 10+26, the name "Hans Grade", and will come in a special box. It is scheduled to become available on Herpaīs website in April, and will be offered at a minimum price of 20 Euros. There are, of course, no limits if you want to donate more. At the same time, Herpa will release a limited-edition midel of four hundred Volvo FH canvas trailer truck models, carrying the design of THW (a German disaster relief organization), which will be available as of 22 Euros, from the same online source. Every single penny you pay will be donated to those hit by the tsunami.

What happens to your money?

The aim of our help is for the money to go directly to those in need. Therefore, we have decided to support a very practical privately organized support effort. Our neighbor Erich Hauck, a sixty-one year old army officer from Dietenhofen- the home of Herpa in Bavaria- has very close connections to those who live in the flooded areas, and became aactive immediately after the tragedy occured. His niece has been living for years in Beruwela, a Sri Lankan village of 2,000 inhabitants, which was severely devastated by the mega wave. Together with her husband, she operated a hotel that provided work for 120 of the villageīs inhabitants.

Many of them have not only lost their job, but also their entire belongings. All supply chains- from water and food to electricity- have collapsed. By the copy deadline of this issue, not one of the big international aid organizations had shown up in Beruwela, which means that private commitment is vital for the survival of many of her village neighbors. And Erich Hauck has been gathering donations to make this important relief effort possible. For the report on local aid, supported by many people from various countries, take a look at the hotelīs website at www.ypsylon-srilanka.de - unfortunately, only in German.

We would like to support this local commitment, and ask you for your support by purchasing these limited editon models. Wings World will keep you up to date at regular intervals on what your donations are being used for in Beruwela. Of course, you can donate more. For details, ask the WingsWorld team, or contact Erich Hauck by phone on +49-9824-8252.
