I was thinking the other day with Star Jets becoming more popular and releasing new molds ,and with Pixelport coming out with new gse and buildings. Does anybody else besides me think Herpa really needs to get its act together? I mean sure they have started with the new gear, but some of their molds still look like garbage. I think we all know wich ones those are ,and then their new gear doesnt even look right on some aircraft, and then to top it all off they still make og planes. Its like they think they can stay on top no matter wut! Is anybody elsed tired of this?

WoW!
That is quite the run on sentence!! Herpa has to change it's baby buses. The 757 is good and the 747 is ok. I think the 757 is the best of the New Generation by far..... Cat |

...screw the goofy-lookin' planes and boring releases... I'm in love with Herpa's new range of airport accessories!
I can't get enough of the new fire station, it's so damn realistic! And don't forget those awesome looking trees, wow, not even scale railroad trees look that good. On a more serious note though, I'm sure the boys in Germany could do better than what they're throwing at us at the moment. Afterall, Germany and quality are synonymous. ...Perhaps Herpa is aiming their Wings products at junior collectors?

As much as Herpa could improve, I'm still a big fan. Bottom line is every one of our airports exists right now because of their being first to bring us legitimate ground equipment, buildings and a huge array of liveries and jet models.
Could the moulds be improved beyond the NG stuff--sure, but I'll tell you what, they're starting to nail it. The new American A300 NG I just got is an outstanding model--yes, StarJets quality. Having grown up playing with AeroMinis and fabricating airport ground equipment out of balsa wood, old Risk game pieces and anything else that might fit has made me appreciate the fact that Herpa was the first to raise the bar on the hobby. Like all leaders, they have excellent challengers who are forcing them to improve. Long live capitalism, and long live Herpa. |

you guys might be right but the NG herpa A330, A300, A340 and 717's are really nice though and in comparison better than the starjets versions.

sort of like in 1993 when Herpa broke into the market that Schabak had a hold on ( Yes, I know it was 1:600 vs 1:500) but it seemed that Schabak just rolled over and died..they never improved...people gawked at how wonderful Herpa was..how realistic.. ( we look at them now and laugh)... the bar was brought up by Star Jets and now Big Bird, and it looks like Herpa just made a poor attemt to change the wheels... but was that enough?
I have some Herpas that I will more than likely never get ride of..they started my love of DieCast planes... but I am not happy with them... and will not buy the anymore

YVR- rulz is right, the 330/340 is superior to starjets mould, I also prefer the herpa 727 to SJ, even though Im a starjets apologist and have all the starjets releases

I collect both (although only Herpa NG..two OG I purchased I modified the landing gear).
I am glad both are around otherwise we would be at the mercy of only one manufacturer. The same healthy siuation exists in the 1:400 market with Gemini-Dragon-Herpa,etc.. Having a choice is good for collectors and drives both to make a better product. The market is certainly large enough to support both otherwise they wouldn't be in it (makes sense, eh?). I read an interview with a Herpa guy on Wings900 and thats exactly what he said. The good news is (according to him) that by the end of the year Herpa plans on re-stocking its entire line with NG models (but we'll see what actually happens..especially with those recent OG releases). I think the NG 757 mould is by far the best. I have heard the Ng 767 mould is great too. anyone have it?
