If the real model comes without the smoke and flame which displayed on DW's website, I'd sue them for false advertisement......

This is cool. I wonder if they will produce a launch pad and tower. Now that would really be cool.

Cool release, I wonder if they'll toss in a crawler and 1/400 scale VAB to go with it!

Time to scratchbuild!!!

Default Are you kidding me?

AHH, Come on guys, whats next the starship Enterprise? Maybe I should lobby DW to make the Millenium Falcon or better yet G.I. Joe with the kung-fu grip. No thanks I'll stick to airplanes.

I love it---now I'm glad I didn't buy the "regular" version yet. Boosters make the shuttle. I'm also glad to see they included the fuel tank as well

Default Col-OM-bia? No... Col-UM-bia!

Just a minor nit-pick... Col-OM-bia is the home of Juan Valdez, coffee and certain cartels that manufacture and export recreational drugs... Col-UM-bia is the shuttle.

There's some good possibilities that exist with this model, considering the myriad markings and color variations that have graced the shuttle fleet since its first flight 20 years ago:

Enterprise (OV-101): Only used for approach and landing and launch pad fit checks; originally was supposed to be converted to flight status, but proved to be too expensive to do. Simplified paint and markings approximating location of high-temperature tiles (some tiles were used for aerodynamic tests). Wing markings identical to Columbia (see below); when used for display at Paris Air Show, repainted to closely resemble operational shuttles, wing markings changed to match Challenger. During the Approach and Landing tests, Enterprise had a long air data probe extending from the nose, which was removed for the pad fit checks.

Columbia (OV-102): First two flights (STS-1 and STS-2) flew with white external tanks, the white paint was removed as a weight-saving device for all flights since STS-3. Orbiter name is on the forward edge of the payload bay door, later moved forward to match the other orbiters. From mission 61-C (or STS-32, the 24th flight of the program) the upper quarter of the fin has the SILTS (Shuttle Infrared Leeside Temperature Sensor) pod which adds additional black high-temperature tiles. Wing markings are unique to Columbia (US flag on port wing, U S A on starboard wing); on its last overhaul the wing markings were repainted to match the rest of the Orbiter fleet.

Challenger (OV-099): Simplified markings, first one to have Orbiter name on crew compartment instead of payload bay door, for better identification purposes. Challenger never had the modified drag chute tail, as the vehicle was destroyed on STS-51L (STS-33, the 25th flight of the program). Wing markings consist of flag and USA on port wing, NASA 'worm' logo and orbiter name on wing.)

Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavour (OV-103, 104, 105): Almost identical to each other in markings. Endeavour was delivered with the modified tail housing the drag chute; the other shuttles were retrofitted during their overhauls. In the late 1990s the wing markings were modified to eliminate the NASA 'worm' logo, replacing it with the blue 'vector meatball' emblem (the original and best ) These three shuttles use more low temperature quilts rather than tiles. (I'm not sure if Columbia was retrofitted like the others).

SRB markings vary with each mission, particularly the black roll patterns on the nose of each SRB. Some Orbital Maneuvering System (OMS) pods on the Orbiter have small patches of high-temp tile; since pods are interchangeable, they can appear on any Orbiter.

Lots of possiblilites with this model... if it sells well. Guaranteed to be a hot seller at the Cape!

Cool! At least nobody can complain about this being "just another boring release". I'll probably end up getting it.

How about a die-cast Buck Rogers spacecraft with all the trimmings? We could commission DW to build us that funny look'in robot with polished metal that says, "bppbpbpbpbpbpb...hey buck!"

Sean Connery was the best Bond! This was an OK 007 flick. To bad he wasn't 007 in that one.

Hey the A380 non built airliners in airline schemes are sold! Why not this.

I have Air France soon Singapore then Emirates!

How much will this sell for? I know somebody who collects tractors/farm toys but also NASA models. I am not sure if he knows about Dragon Wings.

My guess is that it will come with a basic display stand. You don't even want to get near considering they make the complete pad, RSS (rotating service structure) and FSS (fixed service structure). That would put the unit price way out into outer space! But there will be some masochist -- not me, I don't have the time -- who might be able to get a hold of the construction drawings (in this day and age, it's probably impossible unless you have a connection in NASA) and build a 1/400 scratchbuilt launchpad.

And to probably answer KJC's question, "How much?" I'm guessing it'll probably be in the $35-50 range.

This one isnt for me. I ONLY collect airliners, not space shuttles. I would have rather seen something more exciting and civil-aviation related.
