Default AURORA Models

I just picked up my 7th Aurora Models plane - the United Saul Bass 737-222 (http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/...iew-13389.html). Looking in the db it seems that only 16 models were ever produced in 2005/2006 mainly in the liveries of Delta and United (with the exception of a Playboy DC-9 and rather oddly an Austrian DC-9).

Can anyone provide some info on the rationale behind this brand? I did a search in the forum and found out that they were made for Don @ JetstreamsUSA and largely (if not totally) used Aeroclassics moulds. They are nice models but why did they start and why did only 16 models get made and why were they mainly UA and DL? Also why was the OS DC-9 made?

Not so much. I have 10 Aurora models and none have any sign of problems. To answer the question why these particular models, that's what was ordered by JetstreamUSA. Some of the mainstream companies like GJ or AC will market their products under a different brand for a limited series of models. I have both of the only releases by Super Bus, and one of the three releases by Sonic Wings. There are several other limited brands out there.

Aurora was Don's first attempt at establishing his own independent brand, using existing moulds of the day. Competition was getting tough in the 1:400 market at the time and the brand sort of fizzled out... in no small part due to him heading for greener pastures and developing InFlight200.

No idea about the Austrian DC-9 - that was a bit of an odd choice at the time.

My favorite Aurora was the Delta DC-10.

Thanks that's exactly the kind of answer I was after.

As for zinc rot - just how widespread is this? I've got over 200 models, mainly older ones from Aeroclassics and I haven't seen any sign of it at all. Either way there aren't any other Saul bass 737s out there as there are far too many crappy 777s and A3**s being made!
