Default Air Tanzania Boeing 707 at the breakers yard

Hit by zinc rot, her days are now numbered (need a quick trip to Walmart to get a new backhoe). Might try and salvage the engines and wheels for re-use.

Engines removed for re-use.

Funny Thing My Tanzania 707 Lasted Years Longer Than My 737. Good Thing I Got The 707 For A Good Deal (20 Bucks) The 737 Cost Me 40 And I'm Miffed.
Pity The Fools That Paid 100-150 Buck Gau For The Varig.
That Lot TU-154 Is Prone To Zinc Rot As Well.

PS Your Wing Is On It's Way Out Too. Note The Port Wingtip Outboard Of The #1 Is Curled Upwards.

Every time this subject comes up, I get my Air Tanzania 707 out of the cabinet, together with others reported to be affected and check them over. All are still perfect, so I guess I'm lucky to escape this disease as not all examples of the named models can haved been affected.

I know at some point someone on the forum had mentioned which GJ200 models were aluminum and which were zinc. I can't seem to find the post (unless my eyes played tricks on me when I was speed scrolling the zinc rot thread).

Does anybody which 1/200 planes are cast of what?

His lot is actually the IL-62 and should be perfectly safe

The Herpa 1:500 LOT in the picture is ok but have replaced it (this one came with paint smudges) and keeping it for spares. The AC LOT TU-154B2 seems to suffer from orange peel skin but so far no alloy related breakage. Will follow up around the weekend on this thread as I need to get a new digger for the scrapping part.

Try to keep the tail if it isn't affected. You could try a custom and have the tail to install in it.

Does the zinc rot attacks entire model or only the wings and engines? The wings and the engine pylons of my VARIG PP-VJA are cracking, but the hull looks perfect.

With this one it is the wings and engine pylons. It is amazing though how quickly it goes. Few weeks ago, nothing visible and now most of the wing shows cracks. Having guests over for dinner this weekend so the b707 gets to live on for a few more days.

Well, there's a VARIG 707-441 (PP-VJA) for sale for just $ 150... does anyone have courage to pay it for a model with great chances to be hitten by zinc rot?

I wouldn´t pay a single penny for the VARIG 707.

As I am cleaning my models / cabinet I noticed both Aeroclassics VARIG 707 are very ill and getting worse as the time goes by. The AC Canadian 767 is also sick along with one SMA VARIG 732. Interesting to see my extra SMA VARIG 732 is (still) in perfect condition.

At least Aeroclassics released two VARIG 707s (not the same I agree) a few months ago.

My Air Tanzania 707 shows a beginning of this plague at the rear end of fuselage, I guess it's just a question of time now. Even though I didn't payed big bucks for it, it's sad to know such a nice model will only be dust soon. As I'm writing this, I wonder if, in case of a re-release, a swap for one of those old models could be envisionned ? Not too optimistic about a spontaneous proposal from manufacturer, but if the collectors community strongly ask for it, who knows ?

True, but I'd rather have a delivery colours one, mainly for collection consistency purposes. Oh well, maybe I'll get one of those two anyway.

I Would't Be Optimistic Coming From the Most Pessimistic Company/Entity In Die Cast. To Expect Anything From AC Is Only A Pipe Dream.
