Default Need opinions on Cathay Pacific 744 SOHK Millenium

I am interested in Cathay Pacific 747 SOHK Millenium. Found out it is only available in big bird, magic and herpa.

Big bird looks to be very expensive. So maybe I will have to get a Magic or Herpa. Just wondering how does the quality of Magic/Herpa compared with Bigbird for this model?

I don't have this model but according to others BigBird does have a very impressive mould.

The big bird version is pretty good, but for better colour accuracy, i'd go for the herpa version.

Make up your own mind, its your cash.

Everyone else's opinion is just that, an opinion.

Opinions are like arsehole's, everyone has one and most stink.

Its your money, so make your own decision.

It never ceases to amaze me how people use such a stupidly dismissive argument whenever someone asks for the opinion of others.

The guy is clearly trying to do some research before making up his mind and there's no harm in that.

Are you his mother?

We weren't asking for your opinion on other's people's opinion on the OP's question.

And no one asked for yours either, but you gave it anyway.

Now stop having a cry just because everyone shot you down (and rightly so) in another thread.

What I was referring to is the belief that people here have a consistent coherent opinion on anything.

Some people on this forum despise Dragon Wings because they have plastic wings rather than metal, even though a good plastic mould can contain more accurate detail than a diecast one. Dragon has some of the best 1:400 moulds available, even though they don't use them as much as we would like.

Rather than relying on the bull**** that passes for opinion on here, he should check the excellent database maintained here, which will allow him to check out the various models available, and make his own mind up.

Openskies, once you have some actual experience here on DAC, you will come to realise that most of the opinions aired here are 25% fact, 25% prejudice, 25% ego and 25% bull****.

The true challenge is sorting the fact from the mass of crap. For that, nothing beats doing your own research.

I look forward to you demonstrating your capabilities in doing so, rather than attempting to lecture people who have considerably more experience than you on DAC forum etiquette.

Fair enough, I did come off as a bit aggressive, but rather than dictating to me about 'DAC forum etiquette' (is there a DAC forum-specific etiquette that I should be aware of?), why not take your own advice and point the guy to the database to help him draw his own conclusions? It's easy to assume that he had already done so.

Even so, despite the possibility of having to sift through rubbish opinions from other people on the forum, gathering information from various sources always helps you form an opinion that isn't one-sided. The database is a start (and it does have some drawbacks), but I bet I'm not alone in saying that reading the opinions of others on the forum definitely helps you decide, especially when you don't have the luxury of viewing a physical product.

Heh - I have the BB version and its very nice.
The herpa version also looks really good.
I would have a hard time chosing between these 2.
That should be a good indicator that you'll win either way!

I bought a herpa US AirForce 1 years ago; it has bad quality and plastic wings.
(Unlike dragon wings, although plastic wings but good quality)
Just wondering, after this many years, has herpa 1:400 catch up with the quality like phoenix/magic/gemini? Is this herpa cathay plastic wing?

For the "yes", you mean herpa version is plastic wing? Or u mean the Herpa version is comparable quality wise with bigbird/magic?

The 744 CX millenium in your pic is a herpa version?

Is it plastic wing or metal wing?

I guess Alvin already answer your question. It's plastic wings.

How about the magic version? Since nobody even mention about it, is it very bad compared to bigbird or herpa?

If you want a frank ranking of CX747 models, here you go, from Best to Worse:
BigBird I>Herpa>Magic

I totally agree with the above ranking.
Never spend any money on Magic. Keep that money and spend a little more when a better one comes by.
Buy a Herpa if you are still looking for one after six months and the price is right.
When a BB shows up, don't hesitate and go for it if you really want this model.

Good luck!
And never hesitate to ask for a second opinion here on the forum. Even when another collector has his own thoughts about this...
