Default Dust on models affect their paint?

Hey, I have my gemini terminal and I set them up and then i'm terrified that dust will kinda destroy the paint so I don't leave them there for more than a day. Does dust hurt model plane paint?

No, dust won't hurt your model. There's no iron in the model to rust (dust will sometimes allow moisture to collect), and "zinc rot" is a random event, apparently (although I probably wouldn't leave my models in water...). However, you need to be careful cleaning your models because dust can scratch and dull the finish. I'd use a feather duster on really dusty models, then a very soft cloth to polish them. Try to store them in a relatively dust-free area, or cover them. Really dusty models are hard to clean.

I put the small scales in plastic boxes to protect them from dust. It is easier to clean just the box than each model separately. they don't look that bad also..

You have to be careful with cloths. One day you will catch a small piece and break it, you are match better off using some kind of very soft brush.

While we are on the subject, what do you use to polish these models? I dust mine with a feather duster as previously described, but that doesn't give it as good a clean as I'd like, nor does it restore the shine it had when it came out of the box.

I use canned air and a micro fiber cloth after wards. Not sure if i'm the only one here that cleans models that way, so it might just be an unconventional method, but it's worked for me so far, and yet to be the reason for a scratch on any of my models.

Mild dish soap and water, rinsed thoroughly under the faucet, pat dried and left out to dry completely for a couple days. It's the fastest and IMO easiest way to restore them to their original factory-fresh appearance.

Snagging a prop with a cloth can be a problem, but not if you're careful. I did do it once, but have learned since then. I use a silicone cloth that Highway 66 1/18 car models provides in their packages for polishing my planes. Honestly, though, with over 700 models, I only clean the ones I want to look at. The door to my room stays shut, so it's relatively dust-free in there anyway.

All my 1:400 are displayed on the shelves in the open. Never tried using water to clean them. I use a small duster to dust my planes, it doesnt really clean them well though, the planes will still have a very mild 'greyish' look.
