Thumbs down Least favourite Gemini Jets release

Ok, not expecting many posts on this one, but do you own any Gemini models that you`ve often looked at and thought "what the heck did I buy that for?"?

I only feel that way with one of my mods and thats that horrible Continental 707. I know some of you like it but I`m afraid its all alone, except for a few Herpas, on the bottom shelf of my display.

For the most part, I really like GJ. I have the complete line of Braniff 727's by both GJ and JX. After looking at them side-by-side, the GJ ones really need some work.

Also, a peeve of mine with GJ is that many of their narrow-body planes are rear-heavy...and tend to want to lift the nose up when displaying them.

Otherwise, I am pretty happy with GJ!

Yeah, I forgot about the rear end problem (with the Geminis not the wife!)
My Continental 737-800 is a pain in the ***.
So now that makes two Continental Geminis I`m not happy with.

yeah I agree, my 737-800 from gemini always wants to be in the "rotate" position. Anyone know how to fix this? Maybe gemini should add weight to the nose.

Red face

I'm not that happy with the 707 mold. The pylons are too big and `saggy' and something about the nose.....

By the way....
One relatively unobtrusive way of preventing tail standing is to glue a stiff clear toothbrush bristle rearwards from underneath one of the main landing gear and then trim most of it off when dry. You may have to experiment how much to trim.
When finished, this will prevent the gear from rotating/tipping back and its hard to see the bristle (or it looks like a wheel `chock' rope!).

Gemini's Continental 737-800 because of it's bad colouring and awful wheels.

Thanks From Sean

Talking Arrow Air L-1011F

I don't have a problem with GJ mould, it's just the livery choice. It's just not very exciting.

What is so wrong about the Continental 707?? I don't think that livery is half bad.

Why is it unavoidable? Why can't they just make the horizontal stab. in two pieces and insert them separately?

Apologies to our friends up north and across the pond but the Royal and Air France models just bore me to tears.

Jeremy: I'm with you 100%...the Aetna was a total waste of time and energy. I'd also have to say that as a Gemini Club member, I was very disappointed with the AIA Kalitta L1011 as the Club Model this year. A cargo plane? And one with such an unimaginative scheme? Boring. And no, I didn't buy it regardless of what it's "value" might be. Strange as it may seem, I don't buy planes on speculative value, only if I like the livery/airline.
Man, there are so many incredible airlines and liveries to choose from, like an old colors PIA, or Alia, or Air Afrique, or RAM, or Syrian Arab Airlines, or Varig (oc) or well, just about anything else.
Overall though, I love Gemini, so I'm not down or anything, just bummed at the choice they made.

I'd have to pick the Aetna 747. Certain fantasy models I'd be okay with, but this is not one of them. I don't like displaying it with the rest of the models because of that. At least I've got a good candidate for a decal job if I ever get the urge.

Personally, I think the CO 707 is Gemini's best 707 to date and one of the top 10 in my collection. The 738 is nice also, even if the color may be off a little bit.

Flick, in what way do Gemini's BN 727's need work?

The absotute worst Gemini Jets models are the America Worst A319 and Eastern L-1011. The Cactus model is just awful! I'm not talking about the mold, but rather the colors. What is it with that light blue colors on the tail? I thought it was to be more like a turquois. The gray lines on the arse end of the fuselage appear to be too dark. A bloody awful model.

The Eastern L-1011 that I own has a severe case of slanted window cheat line. The thing starts out all right but fades fast towards Buenos Aires.

The rest o' the models kick arse! I just wish Senor Asher would have taken more time with the Cactus A319 and Eastern L-1011.

The reasons I hav`nt bought any GJ Braniff 727`s is because I think the cockpit windows look crap (Jet X much better) and also I don`t like Braniff colors anyway ( well ok, maybe the red one!).

We`ve got no Braniffs here, we don`t want no Branniffs here!
Please someone tell me that once the 707`s have been released then that`ll be the end of it!!

The cockpit windows may not look right to you because they don't have silver window frames on them. On the BN 727's, they're not supposed to, which is why GJ didn't put them on I guess. Check out the pics @ airliners.net!

I guess if you want total accuracy, then the GJ ones are good. If you'd still rather have them with window frames, then go Jet-X. Me? I got 'em from both.

Angry Re Braniff's and other models

I think by you saying no one wants Braniff's your are standing in the corner alone. I know a lot of collectors that like the Braniffs. I hope to see more, ect DC-8's after the 707's. I collect all brands of diecast models and Gemini are by far the best. Everyone is not going to like every livery that comes out. If its not what you want don't buy it. It may be the model some one else is looking for. Everybody is compaining in this post about Gemini Jets, but if Gemini Jets were to suddenly go out of business, everybody would S@#t their pants and complain that the hobby is over. Dragon and Herpa don't come close to the Quality of Gemini jets and I hope they are in business for years to come. A positive reaction on all Gemini releases.

Oh dear, sorry air tran and any one else who thinks I`m in a corner all on my own. With the above quote I was actually refering to my own collection. I was not speaking for collectors worldwide. Its just a personal opinion on the Braniffs. I also know a lot of collectors who love em and I know I`m in the minority.

Please don`t put me in a corner all on my own, I could`nt bare it.
It`ll bring all my school days bad memories back!!! Hehehe!

My least favorite is the Qantas F1 747,colors seem dull. A close second is the NWA Worldplane 747, one word YUCK!!!!!!!

First time I've heard someone say they don't want the F1 but to each his own. Personally, and we're talking about liveries only, I was wondering why nobody has mentioned that World Airways MD11. That must be the most boring of all.

I second the Qantas F-1 model--I don't see what all the fuss is about. I definitely plan to sell mine when the number looks right.

The Virgin models were'nt all that great (sold them too, for a mint!).

GJs 737s have a nose that looks too pointy to me.

Hey, Air Tran, the point of this post was to complain about GJ. Read the subject header.

As for DW not coming close to Gemini...well maybe a year ago, but not now. DW is getting better and better, and I see no difference between them and GJ quality wise. Unless you want to talk about GJs tail seams, too-thick looking tails and wings, tail-sitting and wrong paint colours (AW 319). While DW has obviously been putting effort into their models, GJ seems to have rested on their laurels. Too bad.

Would 1/400 collecting die without GJ? No way! Would DW have improved without GJ's competition? No way!

Having said all the above, these are $20 to $30 models, guys. Show me another hobby that offers such high quality for so little money.

And one more thing--no one makes a decent 727 model, at least not yet.

The Qantas F1 is a great model and I my wishes were granted when the model was made. It was one of those color schemes that I wanted my own little version of as soon as I saw a foto of it. I was the same with the wonderful new colors of Sun Country`s 738`s and it even has the correct engines! Thanks on both counts ,Gemini!

Keeping with the topic though, the pinkish kangaroo on the tail of my Qantas F1 has always bugged me. Why is it not white, Gemini!!

IMO the Gemini YUCK award would go to the Sun Country 738 it doesn't even look like a 73!
Runner up for boring would be the World Airways MD11.

Hey Colin, I have GJ AA 732 (polished) that looks pretty real.

Hey Air Tran, Why is it that hardcore "Gemini only" fans can't handle any criticism directed at GJ's releases? Are you guys really that insecure?
If GJ was the true crown jewel of the dicast airplane world, their sales would have driven DW out of the market long ago, as it is we have two remarkably talented companies to choose from and a little critique will not force either one out of buisiness.
Here in Canada we know all too well the anguish of no choice, what with one health care system, one party governments, one car insurance company and now one major airline and I tell you it SUCKS!
This is an open forum, praise or bash the releases all you want but please don't slam people for their opinions.
