Default AC twin pack arrangement odd?

Well i just HAD to have one, my first airline flight, on a National 721 early 60s era. but hoping someone was selling one w/o the dc6 in the set so i shelled out $$$ for this one 727. I just cant understand why this set with GSE equipment has a DC6 rather than a L188 which NAL was using in that era. I also find it odd that the early NE 721 set pairs up with a DC3?

I had flown on a NAL L188 but i dont believe any manufacturer has produced one?
