Smile Ansett Air Freight L-188 Electra VH-RMA

This arrived today. I believe it is due for release very soon with two others, VH-RMB and VH-RMC shown as well so you can all get one at least.

A rather plain aircraft to me but our friends down under should like it

Oh yes, this will be very well received down here.

Are these three all in the same markings?
The difference is not just registration surely?
Why three releases??

My thoughts as well. Only a reg change but they are low run numbers.

What is the 'arrow' marking above the forward window on each side?

Adrian,
It's an aircraft flying up and out through a performance chart.
This marking is accurate to the 1:1

Interesting, thanks!
I thought this a PP model marked up for correction

I was lead to believe that arrow was there so as to guide the cargo loaders that nothing be forward of that mark.

I think the windows have been a tad too low on all the Jet-X Electra releases so far. I have only seen the Air NZ (JC Wings) "in the flesh" at Hobbyco but I have gained that impression from photos of other releases as well (eg KLM).

Nevertheless, it is the best L-188 Electra we have on offer in 1/400 scale at the moment.

It is spoiled by that "bob" tail end to the fuselage. Why? Wouldn't it have been just as easy to end it correctly in a sharp point?

Also the tail's trailing edge angle is too steep - it should meet the fuselage aft of the stabs at the point (that would give it the correct angle).

But ... on the positive side:-

* the fuselage diameter appears correct
* the nose and cockpit look accurate
* the engines are the right shape
* the wing/fuselage join nicely follows the wing root fairing
* the wings have positive dihedral.
* the engine shading, although not quite accurate in outline, is nicely done.

A couple of these will definitely be coming to "Perth".

Gavin

Thanks for your excellent service Adrian! My two streaming stars Electras arrived here this week and I am very pleased with them. At least this mould convinces me it is an Electra! If the nose gear and all gear doors were reduced in size a tad it would look much better (from ground level).

I hope my suggestions for improvements are incorporated into future releases so this rather nice mould evolves into something even better.

Gavin

Love your airport - never tire of looking at that.

You need a Garuda Dc10 in red to top it off!!

What is the deal with the main landing gear? Looks displaced?

A weight and balance issue I think. Plane would "tail sit" with gear moved forward. A compromise?

Gavin is right.

The u/c is kicked slightly to the rear similar to the Dragon L1049's and L-188's.
Quite unnoticeable except when viewed true side on.

I love the second picture. It has a real sense of a person peering over a fence looking towards a cargo apron. Well done!
